Now... this is up to the maker. You can make a more simple, mobile, like the one in the image, where it's stationary and hangs... or you can go all out and try to make a balancing mobile where it's free-moving. From what I've heard, for the balancing kind, you keep adding things to add to the weight on certain strings until it all balances out. I think I'm going to try for that, but if all else fails, there's a backup plan. haha. You can even make a spiral mobile if you want.

Minimum size for the base frame is 6 inches wide if you are doing a flat mobile. 4 inches diameter will be the minimum if you are doing a ring-based mobile. If you are going to use paper, please use quality paper that won't get all crinkled and folded just from bumping into itself. You can use whatever medium you would like. Clay, shells, glass, beads, etc... When you are packaging it to mail it, make sure your strings aren't going to get tangled and pieces won't get broken or fall off.

And, of course, mermaid-themed for this one. =) You will have a month to create from the signup deadline should you feel the need to experiment with the idea, but feel free to send beforehand. =)

Any questions or comments, please post them here. =)

i also plan to sign up ,but wish to experiment with materials. some fimo clay or regular clay or paper mache...not sure. I am assuming that it does not have to be out of paper?

wolviechick121 03/23/2010 #

Nope. Doesn't have to be made out of paper. =) I know I'm going to try some things with clay and stones and maybe some glass stones... hmmm.... =P

I edited it above to give some examples of things you can use. So just so everyone knows... samjowers did read. haha

I know the swap says 6 inches is minimum, but is there any chance you could change that. I already have this perfect sturdy wooden ring that I planned to use to make the balancing kind, but it is only 4 inches in diameter and the rings don't come any larger in the danish craft stores.

I'm not sure I would be able to find anything else, so I hope that I am allowed to use it?

wolviechick121 03/31/2010 #

Sure that will be ok. Since it is a ring, that'll make it on the larger side. I was thinking the 6 inches would be minimum if you are just going to do a flat one. I'll make some modifications. B) 'cause a 4 inch ring looks like a pretty good size. =) Thanks for your question. =)

Morgaine 04/ 1/2010 #

It is a good size for a ring mobile, which is why I got them a while back ;-) I just haven't had the chance to use them yet, so this swap is perfect :-)

wolviechick121 04/ 1/2010 #

Yeah for sure. I was looking at what size that ring would make for a mobile, and they do seem like a perfect size. =) I have a glass butterfly mobile/wind chime I bought a few years ago that uses the same size ring, and it's perfect. =) So thanks for pointing that out! =)

It saddens me a lot, but I'm gonna have to drop from this swap. I just got a new job and am already falling behind on some swaps, so I am dropping the more time consuming ones in the near future, and that means this one :-(

wolviechick121 04/26/2010 #

Aww I'm sorry. Maybe next time. Good luck with the new job!
