Description:

There is an old saying, cold hands, warm heart but this is different and the weather won't always be hot! This is a swap for fingerless mitts/gloves or wristwarmers. I love fingerless mitts cos you don't have to keep pulling them off to pay the tram fare and I love wristwarmers cos I work in a draft. They don't take much yarn so they are great stashbusters and there are loads of free patterns, from simple sew-up rectangles to minor works of art involving lace and beads. You just have one partner and send one pair of mitts or warmers. You may suggest colour preferences below.

Do they have to be made out of yarn?

squirrel 08/ 3/2006 #

stupid question the catergory is knitting sorry

user2484 08/ 3/2006 #

Count me in! I love pink, red, navy and green:)

lemonadefish 08/ 5/2006 #

Ooo, toasty warm wrists! I like black, orange, green, blue, purple, and brown... Nothing too pale, as I'm kind of a slob!

Mine will get put to good use as my job requires me to be writing, and whenever I have to work outdoors at night having fingers free from middle knuckles to tips allows me to work while still keeping my hands warm enough to hold a pencil! Make them as colorful as you want, just not pastels, please.

p3knitter 08/ 9/2006 #

The only colors that I don't like are yellow and pastels. I also wanted to let my partner know that I have small hands ( I'm a nurse, and I have to wear size small gloves ... if that gives you any idea.)

user2301 08/11/2006 #

I love deep colors, denim blues, garnet, moss green, and variegated tones of garnet/deep rose etc. Black is also a fave. Pretty much anything that's not pastel, neon, or kid colored primary. :)

brnwebgrrl 08/14/2006 #

I also prefer deeper, darker, more natural colors and nothing too bright.

user2254 08/16/2006 #

Another person who favors darkers tones, but my faves tend more to the jewel tones. Also, please nothing with metallic threads! Metal of any kind tends to make me break out.

user2320 08/28/2006 #

I love anything green (any shade) or purple (less periwinkle, more violet to orchid). The only colors I'm not too keen on are orange and yellow, but I'm flexible.

user1303 08/29/2006 #

I just want to let my partner know that my hands are a women's XS or S. Sometimes I even wear large kid's gloves.

I'm not picky about colors or fibers, so you can surprise me!

user2727 08/31/2006 #

I like deep jewel colours too, just about any purples or greens too, not so hot on browns, yellows and pastels but they can look good too in the right mix.

I notice there is a great pattern in the current issue of Knitty.com. Can anyone recommend other patterns.

Also about sizing, I am guessing I need to know the measurement round the palm, how does theat relate to S,M,L?

Can't wait to get started.

mazzam 08/31/2006 #

I have just finished the Knitty pattern, see the picture on the swap. There are loads of free patterns on www.knittingpatterncentral.com, just click on Mittens and Gloves to be overwhelmed. As to the size I would suggest anyone who isn't sort of average could leave their size in the comments. Knitted mitts are fairly flexible, especially the fingerless bods we are talking about.

The September MagKnits ( www.magknits.com ) is now up and there is a lovely pair of mitts there. (Also great socks but ignore them for now)

Hi! :-)

I'd like my gloves to be red, cream white or black - or peacock colored. Pink is ok too, but nothing dusty, greyish or with brown. I like clear, bright colors. These one are pretty nice :-) fingerless mitts

The worst would be purple or lavendel. Or browny-green with ochra...

I am also not too fond of effect yarns. These are pretty awful... fun fur fingerlesses

Color work is nice :-) Swedish fingerles Mitts

I love this idea! I usually wear a size l or m/l. My favorite colors are Burgand and Black. I cannot wear wool. It drives my skin crazzzy! :)

mazzam 09/ 8/2006 #

Just to let you all know, I am on holiday all next week but will pick up any queries as soon as I get back.

user3482 09/ 9/2006 #

What a great swap! There are so many pretty patterns out now. I would love a cream pair or maybe something in a jewel tone. I made my first pair last winter. They were great for knitting, driving, working on the computer, etc.

mapps 09/ 9/2006 #

Surprise me!

user3508 09/12/2006 #

I too, like more natural yarns...but in funky colors. I love Noro brand japanese yarn...but, anything fun and creative I would be down for.

user3677 09/18/2006 #

I also like dark colours-earthy tones greens, greys, browns. Thanks

Cassandra 09/19/2006 #

I would love either or knitted for me. Nice bright colors is what I prefer. I love any color from the red family so a combination of reds (this can also include the dark orange shades as long as its mixed in with the reds). Please No white, black, yellow, green.

PoMoGolightly 09/25/2006 #

I like surprises, too! Probably the only color I really don't like in garments is yellow...I wear a lot of black and pink, but like most colors!

mazzam 10/ 9/2006 #

It would be lovely to see what everyone sends or receives. Please post photos on the gallery either befor you send yours off or as they arrive from your partner....or even both-it's very easy!

MrsPepper 10/10/2006 #

Mazzam, your mitts are lovely!

user2320 10/15/2006 #

I got some beautiful soft mitts today from someone whose ratrn address lists her as Kennedy in Mayrland, but I'm not usre if they're fro my partner on this swap or in the mitten swap. Love the mitts, beautiful self-striping yarn like Koigu, but I'm hesitant to post a pic until I'm sure where to put it. Please e-mail me if you sent them!

Dragonsinger 10/24/2006 #

Alison, I'm sorry I did not post this sooner but I love my fingerless mitts. Such pretty fall colors and I am also plotting for something for my new yarn. Thank you so much!! Hugs

user3502 10/27/2006 #

Thank you, Toni, for the lovely mitts. I have tried to upload picture to the gallery for some time no, without success. Could someone mail me for a quick guidance? Thanks

mapps 10/31/2006 #

Erin! I just got my beautiful wrist warmers--thank you. They are well worth the wait.

momonmo 11/15/2006 #

I noticed that a couple of people gave senders a less than perfect score because the mitts or gloves were store bought, but although the ones I sent were hand-made, it was ok to purchase the items. Please re-think your score for your person, Thank you! You are also super lucky because the ones that I received were not the color I wanted and they smelled of urine, be happy.
