Description:

A member of this group recently did a swap that inspired an idea for a swap for us. @camelsamba did a Trash Postcard and I thought it looked pretty cool - see her's here and here .

So, here is the swap for us: make a SKINNY (3 x 5) of trash you may find on the sidewalk, roadside, parking lot, etc. You may use some art media to accent it, but it should be 90% trash. In the photo above, I splashed alcohol inks over the cellophane wrapper that I used for the background. Mine is sort of 3D, because of the trash I found. I live on a country road and the traffic consists of a lot of horse trailers and pickup trucks, so I guess that's why there where metal pieces around. You can make it 3D, or flat. It can be a image of something (mine's a hobby horse) or random pieces put together in a pleasing pattern.

One Skinny for one partner.

As always, have fun with it!

ooh cool! Nice trash!

I think I can find lots of "good" trash just in my vehicle :|

Oh good thinking! It is so rainy here I would have to root in the mud to find trash, but my husband leaves our pickup truck looking like a trashcan inside, haha. Drives me nuts...but then I should talk, you should see my van. I guess people who live in glass dumpsters should not throw old gum wrappers.

I've been finding all sorts of colorful bits on the sidewalks lately, and I've been stockpiling them. Time to move from the watchlist to the swap list!

Is it fair if I gathered my trash from my husband's wood/metal shop and not from outdoors? I found some good crap in there in his trash and have already made my skinny, but don't want it to be against the rules.

bluehighways 06/ 7/2010 #

trash is trash in my opinion. If it would otherwise go in the garbage I would think it's fair game...what say our all mighty hostess??

BelleSouth 06/ 8/2010 #

mighty? haha!

trash is trash, no matter where you find it so if it's trash it's fair game!

wait, did someone already say that?

crescendo 06/ 9/2010 #

I was just thinking about if my husband went into MY trash and made stuff with it...I would think that was pretty odd. Mighty odd in fact. Of course, I don't throw much of anything away, it can all be used for making SOMETHING!!

BelleSouth 06/ 9/2010 #

Well, we're expected to be odd! :)

I have a hard time throwing a lot of things away as well. I have containers for different size scraps, with the absolute conviction that some day I WILL find a use for them!

crescendo 06/10/2010 #

MMMM, I love sorting my scraps and crap by size and color. And then refining the sort, and refining that sort and....rinse and repeat

I was just working on an art paper swap - I went around my studio picking up bits of "stuff" aka trash from the floor and gessoing it to a 18x24 sheet of paper, next stop - the bottom of my purse

crescendo 06/12/2010 #

oooh, then you can make Serendipity Trash squares! (Sounds like some kind of dessert)

bluehighways 06/13/2010 #

uh-huh - the paper will be cut into 4 for 4 partners...and that does sound like a dessert! LOL
