Description:

This swap is for those fancy printed paper napkins. You can use them in collages, journals, atc's etc. They make wonderful layered techniques in your art. Note that this is for those that have fancy flowers, fruits, still lifes, animals etc. They can be rectangle, square, or scalloped edges. No Happy Birthday napkins or kiddie types. The size of the napkins can be assorted. Send 4 napkins to each of 3 partners. You will be swapping no more than 2 of each 2 designs or you can send all 4 different for your partners. This swap is newbie friendly:) Also since they don't weigh much, it is international too! I will check ratings and also everyone should have a full profile. Poor ratings should have an explanation before they are approved if you have been given a bum rap, I will judge accordingly. There should be ample enough time to hunt some even if you should have to order on line. Hope there will be many swappers, as I haven't seen one of this nature.

Maybe this is a silly question, but can they be folded to fit into a 4x9 envelope, or do they have to be flat? Thanks!!!

Gofeen 06/12/2010 #

I think it would be best not to fold them any more than they are folded as they come. If we were to fold them again I think we would spoil them for decoupage etc because of the extra crease marks, then we might not be able to use them and that would be sad. ;<(

I agree with Gofeen. I know that the dinner napkins are about 4 1/2" X 8 1/2". While you can do the length, I wouldn't want to fold the edge, but you could fold the envelope at the top and perhaps put an extra sheet of paper at the top to extend the area where it would be glued over and just tape it that way.You might even want to add a piece of a cereal box for a little stability. Actually it doesn't take much to make your own envelope out of brown paper or craft paper.

A friend just showed me this site this evening. This swap looks fun, but I have never done this and don't know what a full profile is. Is there a way I could join?

needlewings 06/14/2010 #

Love to have you pinkroses! Glad you found your profile. Enjoyed seeing your work! Awesome!

Needlewings, I am having a hard time navigating this site. I tried to reply to your message, but it won't let me. I also can't find where you start a new message. Sorry! I'm trying to respond! LOL!

Glad you got things to work at work pinkroses. Just curious, maybe your mouse is giving you fits. Mine was today, couldn't seem to click on some things, so put in a new battery and I was back in business!

I ordered my napkins today, I can hardly wait to get them!

needlewings 06/21/2010 #

Yay! I just got some of my napkins, I have some of the most gorgous roses, I love my brilliant fruit ones, have some with wonderful coffee cups and now just waiting for my mermaids to arrive. They are so elegant!

I just spent the afternoon sorting my...hmmm...extensive napkin collection! I'm lucky to live near a store that sells these quite inexpensively...I keep an eye out whenever I'm there for new and interesting ones. This is a great opportunity to share the bounty!

needlewings 07/11/2010 #

Woo Hoo Marthy! Yes, you really are lucky!

Wohoo this is a swap for me. I collect napkins and buys them whenever I find something pretty/ nice. Don't even know how many I have, but lots to share !!

needlewings 07/23/2010 #

Welcome everyone! It won't be long now. I am looking forward to this one. It will be awesome!

Sunflowercc 07/24/2010 #

Just wonder, is geometric & polka dots printed included?

crescendo 07/24/2010 #

I also have an "extensive" collection (read: precioussss hoarded stash) of pretty napkins, mmm, I love to fondle them. A couple tips for minimizing mailing charges (esp. international) is that I separate the top pretty layer of the napkin from the bottom white layer (sometimes there are two layers of white) and just send the pretty top layer. This makes the napkin much thinner to send, so you can use a more standard size envelope and not have it turn into a thicker small packet (that costs more postage to send) if you send lots of napkins .

Also, did you know you can iron the paper napkins to remove the creases? Put them between two sheets of newsprint (unprinted) paper and iron on there and voila, creases are gone. So folding them to fit a standard size envie doesn't matter since you can remove the creases with an iron. This mostly pertains to the dinner size square napkins that wouldn't fit into a standard envelope unfolded.

Of course the swap host @needlewings MUST be the one to tell you if doing this is ok or not for this swap. But thought I'd throw these tips out there for future reference.

needlewings 07/28/2010 #

Sorry about that, I forgot to hit the start swap button! What a terrible hostess I am!
Sunflowercc, that should be fine, You never know, they may make some cool background prints on things. Crescendo, I agree separating them makes it lighter weight, but check with your partner in case they intend to use them other than decopage and such.
