Description:

I am planning to quit smoking and I thought it would be nice to have a swap. Whether you want to quit smoking, quit eating to much chocolate, quit caffeine, it does not matter. Here is how the swap works: You will have one partner. Post whatever addiction you want to quit in the comments section or on your profile. Depending on what your partner wants to quit, put together a "kit" with at least four items to help them and a letter of encouragement. If your partner wants to quit smoking, you can send them: an article with tips, some chewing gum (or even nicotine gum, if you have it), a small journal to record progress, and perhaps something handmade. Include a small box or tin for the items. It would be nice if you decorated the box or tin with an affirmation and encouragement. If your partner wants to quit overeating, you could modify it by sending an article on health, some low calorie recipe cards, sugar free candies, and a small food journal. For quitting caffeine, how about some caffeine free herbal tea? So in short, you need to send: * 1 box (altoids tins are what I personally had in mind, but feel free to get creative.) * 1 article. * 2 items that will help your partner end their addiction (chewing gum, nicotine patches, recipe cards, sugar free candy, herbal teas, small notebook or journal, etc) * 1 letter (1-2 pages) of encouragement.

Be creative, and make sure to send something you would want to receive. I am not going to put a monetary value on the swap, but be sure to reflect on whether or not it is something that would help you quit your addiction, if you were in their shoes. For hearts, send more than four items, and/or something that costs money such as nicotine patches. I hate to say it, but this swap is US-Only, because I don't know if it is legal to send things such as nicotine gum or patches to other countries. Perhaps if enough people are interested in an international swap, I can start one. This is the first swap I've ever hosted, so bear with me. For the ratings: you must have a rating of 4.7 and no "no sends" in the past two months. If you have recent no sends, please message me, and we can talk about it.

I need to stop smoking and lose at least 20 pounds. I need to feel healthy I think I can drop some weight without too much trouble but this smoking thing is something else, I tried the patches and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. The smoking is starting to really get me down.

I definitely need to quit smoking. I am quitting for my boyfriend's birthday. The main thing I am concerned about is gaining weight. The only time I successfully quit (for eight months) I gained twenty pounds by substituting chocolate for cigarettes. I'm thinking of getting the lozenges because the patch has never worked and I have TMJ, so the gum is like chewing cardboard. I know it works for some people though. I am going to start by recording every cigarette I smoke and why for the next month. I am also going to be smoking home rolled cigarettes. I did that for the month before I successfully quit smoking the first time. "Relaxing" items might be something that could be included in the kit, essential oils, or something like that. The worst part of it is the terrible aggravated mood that ensues from not having cigarettes!

This is a GREAT idea for a swap! I love the idea of a letter of encouragement too.

I need to lose weight now! I'm turning 29 this year and I see all the health issues my mother has and I know I'm headed down the same road if I don't do something right away.

I'ma newbie but I've sent off my first swaps and I should have rating any day now. :)

I need to quit smoking! Badly! And I'm a vegan, just in case anything conflicts with that (candy, etc.)

So when we are assigned our partner, should we PM them to ask what addition they are ending? Will that be ok?

sparklebluefaery 09/18/2007 #

Sure, if it is not listed in the stream of comments. I will assign partners as soon as I figure out where the assign partners link is hiding! This is my first swap, so bear with me.
