Description:

I love Halloween, but I hate gory and gross and overly scary. If you're like me, this swap is for you!

Below, list 5 things you love about Halloween.

You'll have 1 partner. You will either buy, upcycle, or sew a Halloween standard size pillowcase for your partner. The pillowcase needs to be either a) brand new & perfect condition or b) used, but in perfect condition & clean!!

You'll fill your partner's pillowcase with all sorts of Halloween goodies. If you don't want candy or if you have allergies, please post that below!! Follow your partner's wishes on this, folks.

You will find items related or matching the 5 favourite things listed below and put them in the pillowcase. If your partner posts that she likes witches and on her profile you read she loves rubber stamps, then find her a witch stamp maybe! If she knits and wants yarn then send her some orange and black yarn! If she loves the smell of pumpkins, maybe send her some pumpkin scented lotion or candles (please don't send her a can of pumpkin and tell her to open it and take a whiff...while amusing, unless she enjoys cooking, she might feel tricked rather than treated). ;-)

**Read your partner's profile! Check their etsy favourites!! ** If your partner doesn't like kawaii or doesn't want yarn or is allergic to pumpkin scents, don't send it! If in doubt, don't send!

EDIT 2 You can certainly include Halloween items that aren't listed on your partner's profile or on their short list below. I just want everyone to read their partner's profile and put thought into what they're sending.

You can recycle/upcycle Halloween things you might have been given, but these must be in excellent condition!! Thrift store and garage sale items are fine, but again, don't send what you wouldn't want to receive condition-wise!

Also include a Halloween greeting card in the package for your partner that tells him/her of your favourite Halloween memory! You can make your own greeting card.

Because the weight on this might get pricey, this is limited to U.S. You will put your pillowcase and items in a medium flat rate box, so fill it up!!! You're welcome to send it in a larger box if you discover you have oddly shaped things, that's up to the sender, but the pillowcase you send must have at least 10 different items and MUST fill a medium flat rate box!

(When I say 10 different items, I mean that if you partner has 5 things listed and 1 is witches, you can put in 10 witches but they must be different: a book on witches, a cd of witchy songs, soap in the shape of a witch, witch postcards, a witch dog costume, etc.) Make sense?

Think candy, ornaments, decorations, books, dvds, candy, etc. Used books, cds, & dvds are fine as long as they're not in the process of dying.

Get your postage-worth out of the flat rate! No tricks here, just treats: SPOIL YOUR PARTNER!! :-D

Who can join No 1s. No unexplained 3's within the last month on package swaps. You must have 15 package swaps rated by the time this starts. I will check profiles.

I will angel 1 person if necessary. To the person who flakes: I will hunt you down and set my ankle-biting weenie dog on you after he's had a plateful of yams...it will be smelly and painful for you...

I know this is uber-picky. I love Halloween, but hate the scary version of it. I wanted to make this swap for people like me. And I made this as detailed and picky as possible to convince people to join. If this is profile specific then receivers will get more joy out of what's sent. This is about treats not tricks. So, I hope you'll join me!

No candy for me, please & thank you! The doctor says no sugar!

  1. I love pretty witches (no thank you to warts and crooked noses)

  2. Jack-o-lanterns

  3. Halloween decorations

  4. Pumpkin scents (delish!)

  5. Halloween pencils!

Changeling 09/ 6/2010 #

This sounds fun!

  1. Candy is okay for me.
  2. I love black cats.
  3. Can use Halloween pens and pencils.
  4. Like anything old-fashioned Halloween
  5. Like images of animals celebrating Halloween. For example, dressed up cats, dogs, and mice. ;)

PS- I don't mind if things are a little spooky.

ladywolfsong 09/ 7/2010 #
  1. pretty or cute witches (no warty witches for me either please)
  2. black cats
  3. pumpkins or cute jack-o-lanterns (no spooky/leering), and though it may not be shippable, pumpkin flavored things. Pie, cookies, bread...
  4. Halloween decorations (not scary)
  5. Autumn things...with leaves, scents. I love the crunch of the leaves, the smell of woodsmoke, harvest things. Apple cider. no candy please this swap is perfect for me...I love Autumn, and I love Halloween, but not the gross/scary/creepy stuff.

also...is everything we send supposed to be Halloween related as well as profile related? I'm seeing a problem with filling a box with just Halloween stuff if it must also stick strictly to what is listed here or in profile...if someone doesn't mention ghost socks, for example, should they not be included?

OpheliaQuilts 09/ 7/2010 #

Ahh...I see your point @ladywolfsong I think it's fair to include items you think your partner will like. I just want people to read their partner's profile instead of just blindly filling a box with random items.

So, if you see some super cute ghost socks then go ahead and send them if you think your partner will like them. But if your partner's profile says they're a nudist and can't use clothing, then ghost socks probably aren't for them. That's what I mean by having it profile-related. Use your best judgment. :)

crazyforthecountry 09/14/2010 #

Will you take swap references from other than swap-bot for us to qualify?

OpheliaQuilts 09/18/2010 #

@crazyforthecountry I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you have an etsy favourites list or a wishpot list for someone to look at then that's fine.

camshaft 09/18/2010 #

I love anything Halloween, but i have little kids and don't want them scared So as far a list use your own judgement

renees 09/25/2010 #

i really love anything but nothing too gory. I am having a halloween party this year so anything party related would be great. Love pumpkins, love apple cinnamon and pumpkin scents. The only candy I like is candy corn ;-)

bibiana826 09/27/2010 #

No foodstuffs or candy for me please!

Halloween favs:

  • Nightmare Before Christmas

  • Black cats

  • Pumpkins and Jack o Lanterns

  • Anything vintagey

  • Goofy monsters of all sorts

Craft supplies or anything decorative as long as its on the creepy, cute side of Halloween rather than the gory side of it. I'd also love anything that can be used for atc's like collage sheets or little embellishments.
