Description:

I love natural history and one of my favourite places is the London Natural History museum and spending a day there with my sketch book, pencil case, camera and blue tac in my ears to shut out the noise of children on a class trip...ahem.

I know that the term 'natural history' encompasses a wide variety of areas from rocks and minerals, mamals, evolution, plantlife, paleontology, geology and natural disasters, and so I wanted to do a series where we could build up a number of 'sets' of ATCs themed to the many different areas.

EDIT: For this swap you may use any media or technique you wish, be it hand drawn illustration, collage, printing, stamping etc, just make it your own work and the usual 'no sticker slapping' or simply using a shop bought stamp to stamp an image. Be imaginative and creative!

You can choose to use black and white or monochrome if you wish, just simply think what may work best for each individual subject and the style you choose to use etc.

So, for this swap, and each swap to come, you will create 3 ATCs, each one portraying a different branch of the main theme, for 1 partner

The theme for this first installment is Geology

So this is concerned with the composition of the earth and the physical changes occurring in it, based on the study of rocks, minerals, and sediments, their structures and formations, and their processes of origin and alteration.

So you can choose to portray whichever aspects of this subject that you wish, choosing a different 'area' for each card.

Some ideas may be: Paleontology, Sedimentology, Seismology, Geomorphology, Marine Geology, Mineralogy, Structual geology plus any of the many other branches that exist!

Note: Whichever areas you choose, please, please be sure to read up on the term and it's meaning so that you can portray it acurately. For example, choosing Marine Geology is not the same as Marine Biology/marine life and so what you need to portray for the two subjects would be extremely different. I know you all will understand this but I just want to make it very clear since this is quite specific theme wise =)

EDIT: Also, please be sure to include both the main title of 'Geology' and the three chosen individual areas, on the reverse of each card

This is a wonderful theme to start with as it inspires such a wide variety of ideas for how you can interpret and portray the way our earth was and is formed and the beauty of what we see in the giant rock we live on!

The ususal ATC rules apply and any questions, querys or worries, please do ask!

I am giving a nice big chunk of time for this as it could be time intensive and I know I myself want to do the subject justice, have no pressure and not have to rush!

Please have fun, enjoy the process and create wonderful work for your partner =D

Oooo I love geology! But I make postcards, not ATCs. Any chance of expanding it to include postcards? In an envie, of course...
