Description:

Here is a swap for people who would like be pushed out of their ATC comfort zone. Please only join this swap if you are okay with pushing someone, and being pushed yourself.

You will be making one ATC for one partner. When partners are assigned, please look at who will be sending to you (you can see who will send to you by clicking the "Rate your partners and coordinator" link). This is the person that you will push. Take a look at their profile and see what they're into, what techniques they prefer, what themes they like. Then send them a PM (private message) here on swap-bot with three or more "pushes". These pushes can be a theme, a technique, or any idea that you think will push them outside their comfort zone and force them to create an ATC which will be a new experience for them.

Please don't push techniques that require a lot of new technology or gadgetry. Asking your partner to go buy a paintbrush is acceptable; asking them to buy a sewing machine is not. Also, if someone states on their profile that so-and-so theme is offensive to them, or that they simply hate it, don't push that. The point is to give them new ATC ideas that will be new, challenging, difficult, but doable.

After you've received the PM from your partner, use one of their pushes as inspiration to make your ATC. You don't have to use all three, but you must use at least one of them. Usual ATCs rules apply: ATCs must be properly sized - 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches or 63 mm X 89 mm. If you end up trying a new technique and your first attempt is awful, then either do it again or try something different. Send good work - send something that you would be thrilled to receive.

No newbies on this one, sorry. You must have at least 30 completed swaps which are type 2 or 3.

The deadline for signing up will be Friday, June 3rd. Partners will be assigned Saturday morning. You should check your partner and send out your PM before the next Friday, June 10th. That gives your partner 10 days more to complete the ATC.

I hope I've explained everything clearly, but if not, please question below, or PM me.

sounds like this might be fun!

Ok can you give an example please? I want to make sure I understand. Like if somebody always does collages I can "push" them to do a hand drawn one? Sorry if I sound dumb, I have a hard time following directions sometimes and just want to be sure:)

Emika 05/20/2011 #

Yup! You've got the right idea.

To give a more concrete idea, I looked through your profile, @yomousey , at the kind of things you like and ATCs you've done, and I picked out a couple of things that I might push you into trying: a Zentangle ATC, an all-white ATC, the theme of Japan, the theme of sci-fi...

Pick something that it seems like your partner has never done before, or never thought of doing :)

I really like this idea, but I doubt I have any supplies for things I don't do (like I have no cutesy things or pink things). Does that make sense?

Missysmom 05/21/2011 #

OK- I'll give it a try. It's not life or death :)

Emika 05/22/2011 #

@user2637 - that's a good point. I guess it depends on what your partner pushes you into doing, or which of their ideas you decide to use; you might have to spend a couple dollars on some new supplies. You might find a new favorite technique or theme, but if not, you can always give the items away or trade them with someone.

How will we know what we are being pushed to do??

Emika 06/ 4/2011 #

@Missymom - now that partners have been assigned, everyone should be sending, and getting, a message from their partner! I've also emailed everyone reminding them :)

I don't know if there are any other Canadian partners on this swap but Canada Post is locked out right now so we can't send any mail. The Gov't is trying to legislate them back to work.
