Description:

You are signing up to participate in a tip-in altered book swap. A tip-in is basically just like book altering, but instead of getting a book with pages to alter – you create pages to put in or to create an altered book. All tip-ins have different size requirements. For this one I would ask that you take an 8 ½ x 11 inch sheet of sturdy cardstock and turn it so that the height is 8 ½ and the width is 11. Fold the sheet across (horizontally) so you have a double page spread. Then alter away!!!

The theme for this swap is “red".. anything red from paint to embellishments.. no specific subject matter - that part is up to you. You will have 2 partners and you will need to send one double page spread to each of your partners – and you will receive one back from each of your partners. I would also like for you to make a signature tag for each of the double page spreads you send out so that if your pages are included in a book the owner can have info on all of the artists. Remember to leave an allowance in the middle of the spread to allow for binding, keep bulky embellishments away from the center of the page, and try to minimize heavy embellishments.

The ultimate goal would be to have enough pages for an entire book – so I plan on posting more of these swaps if this one goes well.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS – NO QUESTION IS A STUPID QUESTION. YOU ARE WELCOME TO CHECK THE FAQ SECTION, BUT I REALIZE IT’S A LOT TO DIGEST, SO IF YOU PREFER TO ASK IT HERE OR EMAIL ME – I WELCOME YOU TO. I HATE SNOTTY HOSTS THAT RUIN THE EXPERIENCE (ESPECIALLY FOR NEWBIES THAT ARE WET BEHIND THE EARS) – SO YOU WON’T FIND THAT HERE. I WANT EVERYONE TO CREATE AND HAVE FUN.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @IMPORTANT @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ I WILL BE WATCHING THE SIGN UP LISTS AND IF YOU FAILED TO SEND ON ANY OF MY PREVIOUS SWAPS YOU WILL BE BANNED.. IF YOU HAVE EXCESSIVE POOR RATINGS YOU WILL BE BANNED.. WE ALL WANT OUR RETURNS SO IT'S ONLY FAIR..

International swappers might want to know that measurements equals 12,7 x 27,94 cm.

PinkLotus 09/20/2006 #

thank you.. i never even thought of that.. much appreciated by the internationals I am sure :)

PinkLotus 09/22/2006 #

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR SIGNATURE TAG WITH YOUR TIP IN.. I HAVE RECEIVED ONE WITHOUT IT AND IT IS NECESSARY SO THAT YOU CAN BE GIVEN PROPER CREDIT IF YOUR TIP IN IS INCORPARATED INTO A BOOK.

Another hint, try not to have much of your design run thru the fold line. I cut mine in half to glue them in. Others need the room when they glue it into the book itself. Hope this makes sense....

PinkLotus 09/24/2006 #

good point mickey.. it's ok to have it on the fold line if it's not going to interfere with the closing of the page and if part of it being gone doesn't mess up the "flow" of the page.. I myself am guilty of doing it from time to time, but try not to make a practice of it..

annette77 09/28/2006 #

Newbie question prior to sign up . . . after we fold the page in half, we then alter the cover, the 2 middle pages, and the back page OR is this only altering the 2 middle pages ??

PinkLotus 09/29/2006 #

you only have to alter the inside (not the back)

ScrapUSA 10/ 5/2006 #

Mrs Annette asked my question!! LOL! Thx! Was wondering the same thing. But now I'm confused. If we just alter the inside and not the back, isn't that going to leave blank pages in the book once we assemble all the tip-ins together? Do I make any sense? Or are we supposed to do something else with those tip-ins that I didn't understand?? LOL!!! Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PinkLotus 10/ 5/2006 #

well if you glue them in a book you can glue the backs of the pages to the pages of the book - that's one of the reasons why you wouldn't want the backs decorated.. or if you are making a book out of the tipins (not gluing them in another book)you can glue the backs together - if that makes sense..

ScrapUSA 10/ 5/2006 #

Ok, Yes!! Makes sense! THX!!!

JerseyTjej 10/ 6/2006 #

Just received my first purple tip in, but it stuck to itself, now one side is torn... Any suggestions for letting people know how to protect their artwork?

ScrapUSA 10/ 6/2006 #

I would think that the best would be to send it flat in between 2 pieces of cardboard.

sultrypeacock 10/ 7/2006 #

To keep pages from sticking to themselves (or others) an inserted sheet of vellum or of waxed paper can do the trick!

PinkLotus 10/ 8/2006 #

I always package mine with wax paper to keep that from happening.. especially if I use some sort of glue product to seal it.. in this summer heat it is not merciful.

HOW I find my partners? Pascale

PinkLotus 10/12/2006 #

they will be sent to you when the swap closes on oct 15th

user3580 10/12/2006 #

I have always wanted to do a tip in, I have been altering books since the first of the year. so this will be my first try at it, any suggestions, would be helpful, doing art for someone else instead of me makes me nervous a little, but I will give it a whirl. Ellen

PinkLotus 10/12/2006 #

i say do what you like.. I am sure whatever you come up with will be great. If you do altered books this is just the same except you are doing it on a piece of cardstock instead of a book.

arizonarose 10/16/2006 #

Something I found out to be helpful in doing a swap that I think the partner would like is when the partner's name comes out, click on it and get there bio. This will tell you what they like and if possible, make something in that line of atc's or tip-ins. It has been very helpful to me and I hope it helps you.

I'm just emailing to let you know that I may be a little late on sending my Red tip-in to my partners. I have just gotten out of the hospital today after a week long stay. I was in the Intensive care battling a respitory infection and am slightly behind. I PROMISE I will be working on it ASAP. As soon as I get my house back in order and am feeling up to sitting on my floor. I am so sorry for the delay. I am usually very good at getting things out on time but this was one of those lille setbacks that life seems to like to throw at me when I least expect it. Again I appologize. I have emailed both of my partners and the swap hostess as well. Thank you. xxx Zillah

JERSEYTJEJ & LOB: Your tip ins are FINALLY on their way. I just got back yesterday from vacation #2 in the hospital for 3 days. Hopefully I am all better now and will be able to keep up. Zillah! Thatnks for letting me know! I have also had major surgery within the last 5 weeks and struggled to keep on.

I sent out 2 red tip ins but have not heard from anyone...I don't know if they made it or if the recipients were disapointed and just won't say...Can you Please let me know and I will be happy to re do them or send something else to make you happy! Regina

PinkLotus 11/15/2006 #

Be sure to leave feedback if you have or have not received your tipins. As far as I know my partners should have received their reds from me.

I will not be continuing to coordinate these swaps, so if anyone wants to pick up the baton and continue them you are welcome to. You can even cut and paste my description if you want. I have been very disheartened with peoples lack of honesty in failing to send to their partners even though they received them from other people. It seems there was a handful of dishonest participants in each swap. I tried in the past to make up for people that did not send, however I cannot keep that up with the large number of participants. Good luck and I hope you enjoyed these swaps.

user3580 11/18/2006 #

Marcia Nale:) received your red tip in today, it is fabulous, thankyou. this is the first time I attempted these and was very pleased with the swap. ellen marlow
