About Me

Please make sure my last name (not my username) is clear on the envelope above my address.

I’m an Aussie, living in Berlin, Germany. I am in my 40s. I read a lot, mainly fiction but also some informative books on a wide range of themes. With books, I like to have one German book and one English book on the go. My German language skills are good enough for work, and general getting by, but I really am lazy with it. I like cutting pictures out of magazines and sticking them in books to make new journaling pages. I used to enjoy playing bingo with my late grandmother, I have a nostalgia for it now, but nowhere seems to host it. I love flowers, household plants and learning about their benefits. I am learning about what plants from the weed variety are actually edible, like dandilion or nettle. I made some dried stinging nettle capsules for the Winter, they have a lot of vitamins and minerals. I enjoy taking holidays and look forward to exploring Europe more. I am quite happy with my own company and never seem to run out of things to do.

I am not religious, but I do not mind if you are.

I love cat related things - especially black cats. I also love starlings and blackbirds. Ferns, pheasants, carnations, snowdrops, oak trees, nature, dried/pressed flowers. I'm always pleased to receive memo papers, stickers (adult), notecards, stationery papers, washi tapes, unused postcards that are not of a city. No colouring postcards please.

I would love to receive anything with the common blackbird on it. It is my favourite garden bird. Also anything with hares or bees.

Favourite Season: all - They all have their good points. Favourite Colours: all but particularly mauve, forest green, minty green, gold and silver

Favorite Crafts

I'll try anything, I did begin to crochet a cardigan, but am not having a lot of motivation as I've restarted it 3 times already. I also learned how to knit colour-work socks - see Stoneknits on Etsy - but not how to make the threads not tangle and therefore they're mostly too tight. I enjoy cooking and will often cook something new from a recipe book or online, but generally it should have a picture so I know what it should look like!

Currently sewing a dress at a weekly sewing class, I'm making good progress - It helps to have a teacher at hand.

I enjoy my junk journaling and making collages. I'd love to get letter stickers! But not number stickers. Interesting magazine/newspaper cut outs, dicuts, things I can use in a junk journal. Anything cat related, floral, nature, pretty.

Favorite Books

Cold comfort farm - Stella Gibbons. My Struggle (series) - Karl Ove Knausgård Anastasia (series) - Vladimir Megre Flames - Robbie Arnott Though a Glass Darkly - Karleen Koen Village Diary - Miss Read Old 1950s book about cosy, village life.

Favorite Movies

Indie films! Suggest some from your country please! I generally will not watch Hollywood films, including Disney. I can no longer tolerate violence or to be honest, sex-scenes. I do not see how it really enhances a film. Subtle and not in-your-face is always better. TruthStreamMedia on YouTube is always a favourite.

Likes & Dislikes

If the swap does not require extras, you do not have to send any. Otherwise, I am happy to receive any notecards, notepapers/memopapers, letter sets! I am quite open minded and am happy to read your happy moments as well as your not so happy.

I would not like to receive food items. I do not need or want disney, hollywood, religious, manga items. I am not particularly interested in American tourist/city postcards unless it's cute, illustrated or written on or to do with the swap "not my city" for example. Strictly NOTHING even slightly perfumed please!!

Thank you! :)

Temporary

Tea: black, peppermint, fennel, chamomile, I don't really like green tea or orange/fruity.

Comment: Thanks for sharing your weekend with me and for your kind words! Luckily, my 1 was taken away and rightfully so. I was not the only one who was rated a 1 unfairly from that other user. I hope everyone else has their 1 rating resolved as well!

Comment: I *squealed* when I saw the seahorse stamps. They're almost never on stamps! And then the Berlin and London washi tape and the seahorse die cut were just beautiful. Let alone the wonderful letter with your gorgeous handwriting. Thank you for the encouragement and the fascinating stories of social issues. xx

Comment: Hi Carys, I received your mail today on Monday the 26th of February. Thank you ^^ For reference, your postmark details say "5.2.24 20" and I think maybe "BRIEFIENTRUM 10." Though February 8th to February 14th were the Lunar New Year holidays for me here where the post office was closed, so that *might* have affected delivery time. Or maybe it didn't affect your mail at all, but still putting the info here just in case :D Anyway, oh wow, the protest you wrote about!! :O I might have heard of the company you asked me about, or at least the name seems familiar, but oh wow. Totally wasn't expecting to read something like that for a weekend journal notecard thing, and it's interesting and also surprising. And thanks for the goodies as well. Receiving your mail did brighten up my day as I didn't sleep well and finding that I have mail today in my mailbox (yours is the only one that arrived today) did make a difference :D ~Kiyasu

Comment: This was such a fun letter to read. The calendar page was perfect! Your travels sound amazing. I hope they go well. I've heard about the biggest things in Australia and would love to visit them someday. I plan on ordering some of their recent maxicard series of the biggest things. Thank you for the cute postcards, too.

Comment: This is a lovely spider, not a scary one (I'm not afraid of European spiders but I would probably freak out in Australia ! Why does everything wants to kill you there ?) Also I love the color purple so this one was perfect and it has arrived in one piece ! I think that's it for today, but I hope I'll see you soon in my mailbox :)

Comment: Yaaay received it exactly on my birthday :) Lucky did gave me a huge birthday hug, how does he know ? No idea ! But he's extra cute today ! We don't have a big culture of sauna here in France, it's not something we often do and it's more of a super special kind of thing, but I really need a day at the sauna + massage etc ! Thank you for the happy mail and I saw that I received something else from you so I'll be back ahah

Comment: Omg the Spreewaldgurkenreiseclub is hilarious! Yes proofreading is part of my job since the institution publishes a lot of texts. I haven't been to any of these cities because I've never really been to France. The book you mentioned sounds interesting, I should check it out because I eat too much sugar and I wish I could quit. I'm addicted. I recently read ultra-processed people, if you don't know that I would also recommend it.
Response: Thank you so much for the book recommendation, I will add it to my list :) Glad you liked the Spreewald card, we went there last year and we still have jars of Gurkens in the cupboard!
