Favorite stuff

I love mail art and "naked" postcards, especially hand-made and vintage ones. I spend a lot of time in art museums communing with Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, Surrealist, and Expressionist artists. Some of my favorites are Cezanne, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, and Joseph Cornell. I enjoy drawing and painting (gouache, watercolor, acrylics) and very much like the work of Maira Kalman, R. Crumb, Paul Madonna, Steve Mumford, and a slew of sketchbook practitioners. Danny Gregory is an inspiration. And Lynda Barry is a goddess.

Favorite themes

Industry, typography, food and drink (I'm a fan of wet markets and craft beer), vintage imagery of all sorts, including advertising and travel. I love the old and the strange, particularly related to science, technology, and geography. My aesthetic is more wabi-sabi than kawaii.

Other interests

Genealogy and history intrigue me. As I get older, the arc of time becomes more personal, and I want to know more about everything.

Things I don't like

I don't watch much TV and I'm not religious. Cute sets my teeth on edge.

Comment: Thank you so much for the lovely postcard. We actually had blizzard conditions shut down the freeway in the mountains today because of snow. Last week we were in 80/90's. You're definitely not alone and it is crazy. ;D
