Description:

Does anyone think old vintage photos of babies are truly terrifying? I cannot be the only one!

The way they're all little and dressed in poofy clothing and usually set up against a big chair? Why the big chair!? Why don't they have their own little baby chairs instead of being practically swallowed alive by these huge, hulking, massive chair monsters!?

And the eyes! What is up with that!?

Oh the humanity!

So while I get myself together, here are your details...

++++++++++++++++++

In this atc swap we will be using those creepy baby shots to make 2 startling atcs for 2 lovely partners, 1 atc with 1 baby to each partner. You can do two different designs or use one design twice. It also must be a PHOTO of a baby, not a drawing. Original photos aren't necessary, photo copies are your best friend. Also, the linked baby photos above are free to use and copy for non-commercial use so have at 'em.

As a little twist, along with each ATC you will send a short letter to your partner writing (Yes, it gets scarier!) AS THE BABY pictured in your ATC. OOOOooooo!

Now, babies as a rule cannot read or write or think usually about much more than how great milk is and how itchy their big poofy, frightening dress is but let's suspend reality for a moment and think of some truly scary, truly creative stuff to send one another.

++++++++++++++++++

All Artist Trading Cards must be the standard 2.5 x 3.5 (designed vertical or horizontal, whatever you like) and please make sure to make your ATC nice and sturdy with card stock and several layers of paper. On the back please include your name, swap-bot handle, your location, date, and edition numbers too.

No profiles with unexplained 1's or 3's in the past 6 months.

I will angel if anyone slips up but let's make this a positive swap and follow through on it :) Please message me BEFORE giving a bad rating to see if I can help fix the situation at all.

Please don't hesitate to contact me for any info or clarification, happy swapping!

YES!! I thought I was the only one creeped out by those horrifying babies! Bwahahaha, awesome swap.

CraftyDeeney 09/19/2011 #

I had to join - I was also afraid I was the only one thinking they look creepy. All they need is a dunce cap and wings and I will be in full phobia glory. Heck yeah I am joining

I mention mad babies on my profile. I love 'em! Especially the angry ones!

Hahhahaha, loving these responses!

Also could add clown makeup for added flair..and trauma.

MadameCupcake 09/21/2011 #

Oh gosh, clowns!!!! (hiding under bed)

Can they be pre-altered, or should they be straight photos that we play with (like in the haunted gallery photos)? Also, are we doing 1 ATC per each partner or 2 per partner? I don't want to shortchange anyone. Thanks!

I have read where a some of the photos are actually post-mortem and the eye are drawn or painted into the photos.

MadameCupcake 09/26/2011 #

@Izafelidae Whatever you like, as long as the whole thing isn't digital. Some texture is always a great component in an ATC :)

...and yes, some of the Momento Mori (google that if you have a strong stomach and don't get creeped out easily) photos were the first and only photo of the child after they had passed away so sometimes the family would ask the photographer to re-touch them do the families would have a more cheerful reminder of their beloved. In Victorian times sometimes people could only afford photos once their loved ones had passed, this was mostly due to a "Mourning Discount" some photographers gave to families when someone had passed. That started off the huge influx of Momento Mori photos as very fashionable and something everyone began to do; you learn something new everyday :)

I want to know if they really did used to take pics of the dead-like in the movie "the Others"/ Kidman found a book of pics of people 'sleeping', but she was told they were dead. when I googled BOOK OF THE DEAD, all I got was stuff about an Egyptian book. anyone know for real???

catladybj 09/29/2011 #

well, look what I found when I Googled 1800's pictures of dead: http://content.photojojo.com/photojojo-original/memorial-post-mortem-photography/
