Description:

For this swap you will read your partner's profile and send her/him a compliment and cookies! Newbies and non-raters are not allowed this go' around. Other than that, this swap's only two requirements are: A. consider any allergies posted before shipping your cookies, and B. Have a heart! :)

****Please do not send baked goods from your kitchen as some may find this offensive.****

The motivation behind this swap comes from my recently reading a story about a young lady who was considering taking her life, and while leaving a shopping mart someone gave her a compliment in passing. She feels this was her turning point to see life with fresh eyes and renewed optimism. What a great way to kick off the new year! And who doesn't like cookies? :)

No homemade cookies? I can understand allergies, but not offensiveness. What amount of cookies are expected? It would be good to be consistent so someone doesn't send a dozen gourmet cookies and gets four dollar-store cookies.

thehurriedmommy 01/ 4/2012 #

@adlpated ...pls. don't miss the point here. this swap's meat and potatoes is the compliment, and just depositing a little kindness in another's soul. period. the cookies are a wonderfully added token of kindness. perhaps you're making this swap more complex than it is?

thehurriedmommy 01/ 4/2012 #

@adlpated go back and read the LAST paragraph of this swap. thank you, however, for the question.

tessalou 01/ 4/2012 #

I am with @adlpated I would be sending some of the gourmet cookies and would not be very happy to recieve a small box of low grade and cost of one from the dollar store. I, also, do not understand why you won't allow homemade cookies, I would love to get some since I am not into cooking or baking but do love eating them. I am glad that you loved the story and it inspired you. I think that you are missing the point @thehurriedmommy but swapping does have to be consistent or there will be alot of people feeling gyped.

tazzini 01/ 4/2012 #

I've seen some folks kitchens. While I feel my kitchen is up to standard others may have different cleanliness standards. However, I will not eat anything from someone else's kitchen.
I totally agree with the coordinator, its not about cookies, or the dollar amount for this one.

pinkrenegade 01/ 5/2012 #

After reading the swap conditions it's not the cookies part that concerned me as to what I would get or send ~ I was drawn to the sincere compliment part. The cookies really are an extra niceness. I agree with @tazzini ..some peoples' kitchens, some peoples' personal cleanliness. A nice little pkg of goodies will do.

Hope you don't mind the comment too much. I can't join, I'm in Canada. :(

thehurriedmommy 01/ 5/2012 #

anyone concerned with gourmet cookie vs store purchased cookies is probably NOT suitable for this swap. thank you.

rabu 01/ 5/2012 #

i agree with @thehurriedmommy now ok @tessalou there is nothing wrong with homemade cookies but say the person is like me who cannot eat anything that has alcohol or rum in etc what to do then..

i never suspected this simple, meaning swap would draw such drama, however, no good is ever met without resistance. for the two fellow swappers already signed up, this swap will continue. to YOU i thank you, and apologize in the same vein. yet, if there is a cookie out there that will heal my health and bring a financial windfall, by all means, send it! :)

NorthernNeedles 01/ 5/2012 #

" yet, if there is a cookie out there that will heal my health and bring a financial windfall, by all means, send it! :)" @thehurriedmommy I think you are looking for a fortune coookie! Nice idea for a swap. Emily ;)

pedal2u 01/ 5/2012 #

What a wonderful idea for a swap. I have never seen you write anything but extra special swaps. Please don't find anyone's drama a reason to stop writing your swaps. I think think is a reason to do swaps in the groups rather than public unfortunately. There you hardly ever find people that are critical, they join or they don't without comments. Look at this as a positive experience. Bless you for this fantastic swap.

pinkrenegade 01/ 5/2012 #

@thehurriedmommy .. I agree with @pedal2u that you always put out wonderful swaps. Don't pay attention to all the 'drama'. As I said earlier, having the cookies as a treat is just an extra. It really is taking care to read your partners profile and giving a sincere compliment. I hope you don't give up on this.

StarryNights 01/ 5/2012 #

Would it be okay if the compliment was written on the back of a postcard or in a notecard? Just checking to see if it has to be written on something specific.

thehurriedmommy 01/ 6/2012 #

@starrynights ...if your partner is postcard crazy, i'm sure she/he would love that! otherwise, i'm sure a notecard would be just as appreciated.

sissy 01/ 6/2012 #

what a thoughtful swap idea, yes I agree a compliment given for no expected reward can be the one thing that can change a persons day.A cookie is a nice added gesture. I will join as I feel people need to feel they are worthy, loved individuals. I don't know why people worry about if they give gourmet cookies and only get back a cheaper cookie product. it is the thought that is the important thing here. and does one give a gift expecting the same back of the same monetary value. if so they give not out of love but selfish motives. I will not apologize for my comments here, as weall need to examine our motives in doing anything for others.

sissy 01/ 6/2012 #

Oh dash, it is only for US region. I was looking forward to joining, but all the best for the swap to go forward with all blessings to those who participate and many blessings to the co-ordinator.

pinkrenegade 01/ 8/2012 #

@thehurriedmommy ..perhaps you'll consider putting up a swap like this for Intl in a month or so.. that would be nice :o)

Adlpated 01/ 8/2012 #

I'm sorry - I didn't intend to create any drama or to create the impression that I'm a greedy person. I applaud your idea for the swap, it's a creative idea. My experience on the site (although brief) has been that without guidelines to price, amount or size it's easy to under- or over-send and either feel disappointed or guilty depending on if you receive either much more or much less than you sent. I apologize to anyone who was offended my my comments. It never occurred to me that folks wouldn't follow food safety guidelines - I've had them drilled into me over the years by regulatory agencies until they are second nature!

Amna15 01/ 8/2012 #

Love this swap! It is most definitely about the special comment from someone that will light up your day -- ii think the amount of cookies that the sender will send completely depends on them and it is really not the right reason for joining a swap only to get cookies! That is just greedy =/ The story behind this swap is beautiful -- In reality, a simple word of kindness is enough to make someone's day, so why must one hesitate? Thanks so much @thehurriedmommy for doing this swap! xoxo

I love this swap also.. Not really worried about the cookie that gets sent or how many.. I am looking forward to the uplifting special part of this swap. I am not even a big cookie fan..lol.. Nutter Butters or something soft will be just fine for me... The cookies are just an extra for me..In swaps, you give what your heart wants you to give... and I personally don't worry about what I will be getting in return, because the whole act of giving makes me smile... I hope you all enjoy this swap.. for what it was meant to be for.. Happy Swapping... Take care

bugsmama 01/10/2012 #

I'm so happy this swap is going on :)

TheTimeChild 01/11/2012 #

I am excited about this. To put all this very simply. If you are particular about the cookies you get, you shouldn't be swapping cookies. And if that's the focus as it seems since no one has any questions about how the compliment should be sent," simple print out? will pen and paper work ect ect ect.."- Maybe those people should make and join a _____ cookie swap. :)
