Description:

This is a 12-month series of quilt blocks that represent the birthstone for each month. At the end of the series, you should have a nice collection of assorted color blocks for a quilt or other project!

We will make our two partners one 12 x 12 inch quilt block with the pattern for the month. Make sure you leave a quarter inch seam all the way around, so the square you send measures 12.5 x 12.5 inches. Measure your block before sending! Each side should be 12.5" long!"

October's pattern is the Soaring Past Time block.

Here is the link.

This pattern is exact for the size and dimensions, so no changing is necessary.

October's color is pink ( pink tourmaline ). You will use a combination of pink (no solids, please) with white or cream.

Birthstone BOM Guidelines

If you join the BOM, you don't have to stay in it for each round. It's not a requirement that you join each month.

Make sure the fabrics are all 100% cotton fabrics and blocks are 12.5 by 12.5 inches when finished.

Press, press, press! You will get better results if you press all your seams as you assemble the block.

This swap is not profile specific, so you can start working on it as soon as you sign up.

If you flake on any of these swaps you will be banned from future Birthstone BOM swaps.

Any questions, be sure to pm me and I'll be happy to answer them.

The birthstone for September is Sapphire... Tourmaline is used as a substitution for opal in October sometimes, but September is always sapphire..

TC 08/30/2012 #

Yes, September is sapphire. This swap is representative of October.

Looks like interest is waning. If there aren't at least 3 participants, I'll cancel this swap and suspend the birthstone BOM swaps.

Just joined. I'm sorry interest seems to be waning -- but the month of August was a slow time, people seemed not to be sewing and sending or looking at swaps. I'm sorry you had to cancel the September swap -- I love blue. But I totally agree that it's reasonable to cancel swaps when there are very few signed up. I hope this one catches more attention. I love that you give us the pattern.

I don't want to see this swap end, it's a good idea and lots of color is something I love. This pattern looks challenging, so many little pieces, one of those that will take alot of practice, right after I go out and buy all those little pieces of pink (a color I have never liked, right along with peach). The good news is I have lots of time to get this all together.

Please don't go buy a lot of pink fabric! I think if you have a variety of just 4 pink fabrics, that's all you need.

Oh thank you! today I'm out the door go to town pick out pink fabric, four is better than alot of little pieces, of course I'll need extra to practice with.

I have a big stash and I have a lot of small pieces, so this will be a chance to use some of them. Goodie, goodie.
