Description:

I have asked gnomeangel if I could host a scrap swap in the USA only and she has kindly let me.

For those wanting to make a Scrap Vomit Quilt as seen on "I'm a Ginger Monkey":

Details: 1. What to Swap - You'll be swapping a Scrap Vomit Square Pack. The pack contains 49 x 2.5" squares of material. This is enough Scrap Vomit Squares to create one Block A. (Obviously, you can use the squares you receive any way you like.) This is a scrap quilt so there's no expectation that the squares will be fussy cut. You just have to make a 2.5" square of a single material - please don't use selvage or sew scraps together to make a square. It would be great if you could swap 49 different fabrics in your Scrap Vomit Square Pack, however if you can't do this I ask that you try to include as many different fabrics as possible it will help people to have unique and one of a kind quilts.

  1. Give unto Others - It should go without saying, but just so we're clear: only swap material that you would be happy to receive and use in a quilt yourself. This means swapping quilting quality material (preferably cotton). Using a mix of pattern that you think is both pretty and vomitty. (Obviously this one is a little subjective, so again if you'd be happy to use it swap it - if in doubt probably best to either contact the person you're swapping with to see if they'd like it or maybe keep it for yourself (and you're next scrap quilt!).)

  2. Communication is Key - I understand that life sometimes throws you a curve ball and means that you can't always do what you would like, so if for any reason you have to pull out of the swap just drop me (and if you're so inclined) your partners an email to let me know and we'll work around it. The more warning you can give the better so that I can redirect packages, etc.

  3. Time is Money - Please post your squares to your swap partner by the postage date specified. If you're anything like me just knowing that something is coming in the mail is uber exciting, so it would be great if all our packages arrive around the same time so that we can all celebrate together.

  4. Quilt Karma - Ultimately a swap like this is only as good as what you put in to it so please remember to treat everyone as you would expect to be treated. Chances are if you shaft someone today, you'll be shafted tomorrow.

so we're doing 49 squares x3?

whit763 12/17/2012 #

Correct,It seems like alot but really isn't. You can send it in a card and stick 2, sometimes 1 stamp on it and it goes though the mail fine.

Ooh, excited to see this. Signing up now (I have charms just waiting to trade!).

nothingelse 12/19/2012 #

Yeah! So glad we are doing more. I need close to three thousand of these little squares. Anybody who wants to swap send me a message!

Can they be cotton flannel squares, too, or just the regular material kind if you know what I mean? Thank you!

I've participated a few times now (love 'em~ this is why I joined swap-bot!) but I've repeated at least one partner and I am no longer sure of my stash and not sending duplicates. Is anyone else worried about this? My SV quilt is not a charm quilt (ie: I am not trying to make every square a different fabric) so duplicates don't bother me but I worry that someone may have already gotten one of my packs and will be upset.

whit763 12/26/2012 #

I think people realize that and if they do get duplicates then they can always tade them in another swap. Or maybe they could use them in a different quilt.

Does each square have to be a patterned fabric? I have lots of different cotton scraps, but many of them are solids.

JLVerde 01/ 1/2013 #

@deaconessjane Personally I'm fine with some solids in a packet. I don't have a ton of solids in my stash so I can always use some for my scrap quilt. As long as the colors were a mix (not too many duplicates).

Just FYI, i went to the post office to mail mine today, and the postal worker told me that I'd have to pay Parcel Post rate ($1.95) to mail them since they weren't even the entire way across the envelope I had them in a standard business size envelope (8.5x4). I'm going to repackage them between cardboard so that it's even and hopefully 2 stamps will do it then.

Thanks for the info @beadqueene I wonder if it's because the postage is/has gone up? I've noticed different post offices will very.
