Description:

This is the first of a short series of quick swaps. You will begin by starting the background layer of an ATC. Any medium is acceptable and you can use more than one medium. For example I might start the ATC with a book page background with some lace added. Here is where it gets fun! You will send this unfinished ATC to your partner. They will add the next layer before sending it on again (this is why it is a series). Again, any medium is fine but you have to be able to see at least part of the layer underneath the one you are adding. On the back of the card please give all your info (title, name, date) but leave room for 2 more artists! We will do this three times. So the first swap will be the background layer, 2nd one will be a middle layer, and the last swap will be the final layer. This first one will be public but after that I will only include the group who originally signed up. It is very important that you are prompt with getting your ATC's out. You must have completed at least 8 type 2 or type 3 swaps and you must have a rating of 4.8 or higher! Do I really have to state no flakers?!?! Let me know if you have questions. I'm going to keep this first one regional to the USA. We will see how it goes. Be creative with your layers! Don't just slap down stickers or a simple layer of paint. When they are all finished we will have a very unique ATC created by several artists!

This is a 'collab' in sticker trading terms! Yay! I've been looking for something like this! Cool!

Cannot wait until you do an international one, sounds like it will be amazing.

Sounds like an ATC Jam?

I love the idea of this. It would be great to see what everyone comes up with, can we see FLICKR photos? (If you have an account)

JenRed 06/28/2013 #

I like that idea, too! It would be fun to see how the cards you helped create ended up!

Lady, yes it does, I belonged to a group calle ATC JAMS (Just Add More Stuff), and this is the same idea in this swap, it is a lot of fun to do.

Just curious...when the 3rd artist adds the last layer..do they keep it or does it get sent back to the starting artist...or does it get swapped to someone else entirely??

Might I suggest putting up all three swaps with the same join date, but varying send-by dates, and requiring everyone to join all three? Otherwise, if someone joins #1 but then not #2 and/or 3, the card will not get 'finished'. :/

but its American :'(

Thank you for the questions and suggestions. I have never done a swap like this so I am kind of winging it. :) I was planning on having the third artist finish it then send it on to someone new. I do realize that someone may not sign up for round 2 and 3. In which case that card will not get finished and they will not receive a completed card. I guess I was thinking since they signed up for this one knowing how it was going to go that they would sign up for the rest of it and follow through. Hmmm.... maybe there are a couple people who would do a couple of cards so just in case we needed to fill in somewhere there would be a few extra cards with all the layers???? Idk.... Just thinking... Any more suggestions? especially from those who have done these types of swaps before? We might just have to try it and see how it goes then I could always do another with modifications.

ThESwEeTIE, I will do an International Swap after this one when I've figured out what works! :)

grammag 07/ 1/2013 #

I think you are right on track with your idea. But just in case, I would be more than glad to make a few extras. I think this is going to be so much fun!

ThESwEeTiE 07/ 3/2013 #

OK.. I will wait patiently then :( thank you

Pouffia 07/ 4/2013 #

Great, waiting for the international swap!

QuilterinMotion 07/ 5/2013 #

This does sound like fun; hopefully everyone signing up with follow through as it will be lots of fun to see how they end up! Perhaps the following two layers should only be open to people who did Layer 1 and that way the final swap would go to someone who participated in all three layers. Just an idea....not sure how you would create that requirement.... Just go with and let's see what happens!

Sandyyoga 07/ 5/2013 #

Hope this goes well would love to join but live in England!

atcdesigner 07/ 6/2013 #

I'm just getting my layer 1 ready for the mail. I'm excited to see what comes next. I'd be happy to make extras if they're needed along the way.

magicinker 07/ 6/2013 #

Sent out layer 1, Now what? Do i send each one on to the same partner as in 1?

JenRed 07/ 6/2013 #

Partners have been assigned! Looks like we have a very good group here! I will set up the next swap soon and invite you all privately. You will need to wait to get Layer 1 from your current partner. You will add a second layer and pass it on to a new partner! So watch for the swap sign up! I will give you plenty of time to get your atc and then to add your layer.

JenRed 07/ 7/2013 #

I have also set up round 2 in this series. I sent you all messages with the password. Look for thePRIVATE swap: Traveling Layers ATC the second layer on my profile. Let me know if there are any problems! Thank you!

JenRed 07/11/2013 #

Please remember to sign up for Layer 2! Missing 9 of you!

JenRed 07/12/2013 #

I think things are going smoothly so far. However, I already know some things I will do differently next time for the International Swap! Would love any feedback!
