Description:

I was putting away some sizable scraps the other day and realized I had two boxes full, so thought it was a good time to create a swap or two!

For this swap we will make one block, 12.5" finished made up entirely of scrappy fabric pieces at least 1/2" in smallest dimension, to 5" longest dimension. Any pattern you want, or none, any colors you want--it's SCRAPPY!!!

EDITED: You can use sashing or other plain/background pieces to enhance the scraps Using the muslin foundation piecing method will make your scrap blocks better.

Be neat though, trim your thread tails, press your seams, trim the block to be 12.5" square, and have fun!

The usual expectations--no flakers, no recent 1s or 3s, send quality work made of quality scraps.

International because one block shouldn't be very expensive to mail--press it really flat and mail in a 6x9" manilla envie as a letter!

If there is interest, I can make this a Block of the Month after this one.

I have scraps -- I REALLY have scraps and the time was coming when I had to cut them into squares or strips. Now I'll use some for these blocks.

This sounds like a fun swap!

OH my goodness!!! Those Crumb blocks are darling - I totally want to make some of those.

Someone clever offers this suggestion:

"I've always found it works best to sew the scraps onto a foundation -- a piece muslin or even some not very good fabric that I don't think I'll ever use. This makes the parts that are somewhat on the bias unlikely to stretch."

This--it's called "[muslin] foundation piecing"-- is a really good idea, and also makes the block making easier. So, if you are having a quality goal in mind, use this method to create your "crumb blocks".
