Description:

Choose one option from each of the three choices listed below to send to your partner:

2 handmade envelopes –OR– 4 handmade swap cards
3 blank postcards –OR– 2 blank notecards with matching envelopes
1 paper profile surprise –OR– 1 sheet of stickers

In the end, you will be sending your partner a total of three of the different options. For example, your partner’s package might include 4 handmade swap cards (from option 1), 2 blank notecards with envelopes (from option 2) and a new bookmark as a profile surprise (from option 3).

This swap is sender’s choice. Store-bought or nicely handmade items are welcome. The theme of this swap is paper, so if you choose to send a profile surprise, it must fit the paper theme and should be something different than the other options you have chosen.

Swap cards are often made out of cardstock and measure 2 in. x 4 in. (5cm x 10cm). They can be used by your partner to accompany their future swaps. Decorate them with stamps, stickers, washi tape, etc. In nicely written or typed letters, write “Swap:”, “To:”, and “From:” and leave blank space so that your partner can fill them in later. Leave the back of the swap cards blank to be used for a message.

This is an international swap and your package may be thick depending on what you choose to send, so please be aware of international postage rates.

Remember to include your ID and the name of the swap in the package to your partner. Once you have received your partner’s swap, please rate promptly.

I'm very interested in this swap, but I'm not artistic or creative at all. So the first one has me concerned. This is probably a stupid question, but how does one make a handmade envelope?? Can you use a blank envelope that you have & decorate it with stickers or something? And, what size should the envelope be? Sorry for the question, but I wanna be sure I know what I'm getting into before I join. Thank you =)

Hi @Crysmari An easy way to start making handmade envelopes is to carefully take apart a store-bought envelope and use it as a template. Trace around it onto some kind of thick paper, like patterned cardstock, old calendar pages or even pages from damaged books. I save books with broken bindings that would otherwise be thrown away and use those with thick glossy pages. Cut the envelope out and crease along where the folds will be. Then use a good quality glue stick/adhesive to glue your new envelope together like the store-bought one that was your pattern. No need to embellish or add blank labels. Most people seem to prefer doing that themselves.

You can also search online for free envelope templates. As for size, in the US, minimum envelope size (without extra charge for being non-machinable) is 3.5 x 5 in. but I think it's a bit larger for other countries. Some people use them for sending postcards, so 4 x 6 in. or a little larger is good.

If you've never made swap cards (Option 1), there is a link within this swap to a printable template for swap cards. (And you're welcome to join the swap, of course. :) )

I make Rectangle Envies by tearing out the Calendar page. Trim off the torn edge..Fold 1/2 inch in on each of the 2 long sides, then fold up to make envie with about 1 to 2 inches left at top to use as Flap.. press each fold firmly, Then use Glue stick on the 1/2 inch flaps and fold up to form the pocket part of the Envie..press firmly. These are easy to make... and hardly any waste of a Great picture from the Calendar .
