Description:

I have always enjoyed the postcard scavenger hunts here at Swap-Bot and I thought I would host one with a bit of a twist to it. Sometimes, when I look at postcards, they convey a very strong idea or concept to me. I thought it might be fun to base the categories on concepts rather than the types of categories I am used to seeing, such as specific things that need to appear somewhere on the postcard. As an example for this swap, if the word "flight" was a listed concept, you could use a postcard that shows any of the following items: birds or other flying creations, aircraft, escaped balloons, fantasy imagery of humans flying, a view of the earth from the sky one might have if one if one were flying, or anything else that triggers the idea of flight to you. Now, because some of your postcard selections might be made based on your personal perspectives rather that something that would be obvious to the recipient, you will also need to explain your choices to your partner. Are you with me? I hope so!

Okay, so here are the rules:

  • You will send your partner 6 clean and unused postcards in good condition in an envelope. No hand-made or home-made postcards are permitted for this swap. Commercially made postcards from any store or online vendor are fine, but choose good quality postcards.
  • Each postcard must represent, in some way, one of the 12 concepts listed below.
  • You may only use one postcard per concept, so no doubling up.
  • Please let your partner know which concept each postcard represents on a separate piece of paper or on a post-it note attached to the postcard. Explain how or why the postcard represents that concept to you.
  • Mail the unused postcards together in an envelope to your partner.
  • Keep an open mind when reviewing the postcards you receive and have fun discovering how our individual perceptions can be so different at times. Can you see what they see?
  • You must have a rating of 4.95 to play.

And here are the concepts from which you may choose. Pick a minimum of 6 concepts.

  • Twins
  • Survival
  • Camaraderie
  • Insular
  • Crash
  • Anthropomorphize
  • Vision
  • Celestial
  • Prickly
  • Happy Feet
  • Bountiful
  • Inner Fire

I hope you will join me and play in this swap. Because we are moving into the holiday season and I know people will be busy, I am giving participants a full month from the sign-up date to the send-by date. Hopefully, that will give people time to squeeze this swap in. I am restricting the swap to the US, but if I hear from any international swappers that they would like to participate in one like this, I will set up an international one. If enough people enjoy this swap, I may offer it on a regular basis. Have fun!

I love the idea of a concept swap. Are you considering also doing a swap for just one written and stamped card with a certain concept and an explanation on the back?

EmilyT 11/27/2015 #

I love this concept idea as well! And I 2nd the motion for a naked concept pc swap, too :)

couchart 11/28/2015 #

Sure @swan and @emilyt if folks would like a single naked and written card with a concept, I can certainly host one. Thanks for the suggestion!

Cynthia
