Description:

I'm copying a swap idea, and altering it.

If you are an avid ATC-swapper, you've no doubt received some that you like less than others, that do not quite fit into your collection - but you hate to toss them out because somebody made them for you.

Now, the challenge is to "add value" to those ATCs, by re-working them. You can paint, draw, stick, stitch, bead, glitter them - or whatever you can think of to "zuzh" them up.

Add your name to the back with the words "Altered by..." and a date, if you like. Write a note for your partner explaining what you did - and you could even post before-and-after pics here.

You must send a minimum of ONE altered ATC to your partner - but you may send more, if you're on a roll.

I hope you have fun!

I am making this an open swap - so ratings don't count. I will personally "angel" anyone who does not receive anything - contact me.

wow good challenge!

I hope no one is 'altering' one of my ATC's....

I wouldn't mind if someone altered my atcs. It's almost like a round robin swap, if that's what you call more than one person working on a project. I'm sure some of mine could be jazzed up a little more. In collage, more IS better.

I'm with Alphenstamp. If it's one of mine, I do not give permission to change it. Please check into copyright laws and such.

I'm sure you two are real artists and nothing could be done to improve your ATCs. But I have been in some newbie swaps, and their work is just evolving. Those are the ones I would pick to embellish. ( I'm also thinking of a picture with a sticker slapped on, sent to me by an established coordinator) I guess I will end up passing this time. However, my work is not copywrited, so have a go at anything I have sent out.

I do not agree with the concept of this swap. You do not have permission to use any of mine. They are all copyright images. Even if it's sticker on a card stock, you might want to include a note stating that you have the artist's permission to do this.

Alter anything of mine you want!! It's just an ATC for crying out loud!

Hmmm... interesting discussion. We will take note of those people who do not want their work altered. I would actually enjoy anything I have made inspiring somebody to want to add to it - you are right, mamajoy: it is like a round robin. I like the idea of "community" engendered by altering.

The ATCs that I have that I would like to alter are the ones that need just a bit of "finish" - the ones that have been made by people who love to craft, but who maybe have not had a lot of practice, or exposure to the "wow" ATCs... and so on. I also want to alter the ones that I really (secretly) thought were badly made, you know - the sticker-on-a-piece-of-card kind. I believe that they are worth salvaging, because somebody made them and thought enough of them to post them to me.

I wonder how copyright laws apply in this case. I'll see what I can find out. Seems a big to-do about a small matter, though.

It's the principle of the thing...it's insulting to someone who thought enough to send you something. And whoever said it has to be a "wow" atc? It's the thought that counts..and I think it might hurt some people's feelings if they knew you didn't appreciate their work enough to keep it. It's like you're saying that any time spent on it at all is worth nothing.

No, not at all. From my perspective, altering says the opposite. I alter it because I value it, not because I consider it worthless.

I think the impulse to alter/embellish is a very human characteristic. I put time and thought - love - into something because I consider it precious. My effort renders it MORE so, to me. I do not do it to insult, or hurt.

In the end, though, we are all entitled to our own opinions. I appreciate the time taken to express the sentiments shown here, and I especially appreciate those brave enough to join this swap despite what seems to be the majority opinion!

I would actually enjoy seeing what somebody does with one of my ATCs - so if there's someone who'd like to do a private swap-&-alter with me, let me know!
