Description:

I thought it would be fun to do a book swap with the alphabet (hopefully adding a new letter apprx once a month). I love reading and love the chance to share books I have read.

For this swap you will read one book using the letter "A" for either the author name or the book name (mostly because some letters may be difficult). For example for "A" you could read any book by the author Margaret Atwood, or you could read a book called The Appeal by John Grisham. (we won't count the as the first word) This can be a book you have already read or a new one you have been wanting to read, or maybe an old favorite you want to re-read.

When you have read your book, you will send the book on to your partner, with a note about why you chose the book, what you liked about it or maybe didn't like about it, a connection you made to the book's characters, etc. Sort of a book club of one! Hopefully we will all get to read some new books or discover a new author or new genre.

A nice touch would be for each partner to then send a thank you after reading the book and letting your partner know how you liked the book and what your impression was.

So, each person reads one book, sends the book and a note about the book, on to their partner. Since it takes some people more time to read than others, I am giving a little extra time. However, you don't have to wait to get your partners assigned to start reading. This does not need to be profile based. Maybe for hearts you can send along a bookmark or a book cover as well. Or something that is connected to the book in some way. Be creative! Also, don't rate on whether you liked the book, but rather on whether you received the book!

I am only doing this as USA due to postage costs. However if there is interest out there for international, I will consider doing another one. I will allow newbies, as you have to start somewhere! But be sure you are able to commit to this before signing up. Also, you must have a rating of 4.8 or higher. This isn't a hard swap, but everyone deserves to receive the swap items agreed upon, so be respectful of that.

And Happy Swapping!

I'd love an international version of this, but you're right about postage costs for books, so perhaps it could be less frequent. I think the follow-up component is a really nice touch.

I also would love an international version. If participants were OK about waiting longer to receive their swaps, this would permit books to be sent as printed matter by surface mail, which does not cost very much.

I agree with tehuti - books via surface mail would be a good way of doing this :) for international.

I'll look into an international swap then. I would like to see what kind of books everyone would receive from overseas anyway. But for now this one is staying USA only. Thanks for your input.

I have created an Intl swap for this also, if anybody is interested in joining that one. "We love Books - A - Intl"

Awww, the surface mail idea would be awesome...if the USPS didn't discontinue that service(one way discontinuation ONLY) almost 2 years ago. I only wish that they would bring the service back so that we could send things to other countries for less.
