Description:

Who wants to get a one of a kind fabric postcard? The requirements are easy. You make one and receive one. The fabric postcard needs to measure 4 x 6 inches at the time of mailing. The front can be any design or amount of stitching that you wish to do. The back needs to be a light colored fabric like muslin so that you can easily see the address and information. Please write your partner a cheerful message. Make sure that you write the word postcard on the back. I use a permanent black pen to write on the back of the ones I send. You can mail these to someone in the USA with a 42 cent stamp. Internationally I would put it in an envelope. It usually costs about 94 cents to mail. You can put them in an envelope if you want to. I recommend sending them in envelopes. Sometimes the machines at the post office leave black ink on them. Send something you would like to receive. You must have a rating of 4.8 or better to participate. If you are a newbie please have a completed profile for me to read. I will then decide if you can participate. No flakers please. Open to international participants. You can find instructions on my website on how to make these.

Do you do the satin stitch binding the 3 layers at the edge by machine or by hand?

fabricmom 01/11/2009 #

I use my machine.

i have never made a fabric postcard...obviously there is a front and back....what do you put in the middle if anything? Is there maybe a tutorial? Will put this on my watch list until I figure out if I can figure out how to make one LOL

ok so you say use a light muslin for the back so you can see the persons info.....do you write on the muslin?? And is it ok not to write on it and just put it in a padded envie to mail?

After I make the decorative top, I make mine quite stiff with several layers of very stiff interfacing held together with craft bond that is ironed on. Then I satin stitch all around the layers. You can see some of my cards on my flickr site. I use my machine to write 'postcard' at the top of the back (it is required to write postcard at the top center back). I'll be sure there is an example on my flickr site. If you google fabric postcards, you will easily find tutorials. I always mail mine naked and ask for them to be hand canceled. I make sure I have extra time at the PO for everyone to come and look {>D
