Create any small size traveling shrine for your partners from a matchbox or any other material that you can think of. Send one matchbox shrine to one person. The swap is for Incredible India group members.

Ask your partner what sort of shrine they would like or after you sign up let us know by adding it in your profile and/or in the comment section below. For example Buddah, Ganesha, Krishna, Vernishu, Saraswati, etc. The shrines can be handmade for example info Puja Kits, even rosaries in pouches could be considered a travel shrine/ devotional kit. A cigar box travel shrines ( a tiny buddha, incense burner, incense, rice, dry fruit, offering bowl, mantra beads, anointing oil, candle). Or even a triptych shrine. I will still check if any group members from Incredible India have no send ins or anything fishy.

Here are a few fun web sites of photos of examples of handmade shrines and various ideas on how to create them.

Ok.

threesweetpeas 01/31/2009 #

aw if it was only 1 shrine i would join, i MUST limit myself somehow, lol and postage from sweden is expensive!!

LaTosi 02/ 6/2009 #

Threesweetpeas I think this is for only 1 partner, isn't solarts? I would definitley join but couldn't possibly get it done in just 3 days after finding out who our parrtner is, would you consider extending the send by date by a couple of weeks?

solarts 02/ 6/2009 #

For a couple of weeks? The shrines are only the size of a matchbox and I changed the swap to one person not two. Unless others are planning to make a big shrine like the size of a shoe box. Remember this is a "traveling shrine" that anyone can put into their bag or etc. It's fairly light. I will extend the date to Feb. 27th. ? :)

Sorry didn't mean to cause a problem, I was just asking. I didn't know you already had made a change. I just said a couple of weeks just trying to buy some time, I'd like to be part of this that's all. I try to sign up for almost all my group swaps. The 27th is great, thanks.

No problem at all LaTosi. I'm a pretty easy going person. I was just rephrasing what you asked. And explaining more about the swap. I appreciate the fact that your communicating and asking questions for our group. If I had more time I would join more swaps but I'm having to cut back on swaps. I have more work to do with my art work and other important things outside of swap-bot. If only I could clone myself. hmmmm.......................... In a way that would be a bit scary to clone myself. If I could. I would have my one self do tons of swaps and the other self be doing work outside of swap-bot. lol! Have a great weekend. Ciao!

So what do you think about a 250ct matchbox? To big? I've been wanting to try something with one of those.

solarts 02/ 8/2009 #

How big it that LaTosi? I only know inches and feet.

LaTosi 02/ 9/2009 #

it's 2.5"x4.5" and about a depth of 1.5". Definitley something that would fit in a backpack or small luggage.

That sounds good LaTosi. I was looking up one of my favorite craft sites and happen to have found this fun one. A variety of "how to make matchbox shrines" With photos and easy steps. I found them to be inspiring. http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/matchboxshrinewithshintotwist. To sign up for the site it's free. Enjoy.
