Augusts 9th (Sunday) is National Book Lovers Day. What is that exactly?

"National Book Lovers Day on August 9th harnesses all the excitement bibliophiles feel about books into one celebration. A day for all those who love to read, National Book Lovers Day encourages you to find your favorite reading place, a good book (whether it be fiction or non-fiction) and read the day away."

Did You Know? Bibliophile – a person who has a great appreciation for or collects books. Step back in time

The very first books used parchment or vellum (calf-skin) for the book pages.

The book covers were made of wood and often covered with leather.

Clasps or straps kept the books closed.

Public libraries appeared in the Middle Ages.

Public libraries often chained the books to a shelf or a desk to prevent theft.

How do you celebrate National Book Lovers Day? Sit back, relax and READ! Don’t forget to share the joy of reading with young people in your life. Inspire them with your favorite novel or find out about the last book they took off the shelf. Read to the littlest of the up and coming readers, too. And share what your reading with us, too! Need more ways to celebrate? We’ve got them!:

Shop for a new title to read or explore the shelves for one you would like to give.

Explore the shelves of used book stores. You might find an out of print tome that might become the highlight of your collection.

Discover the world of online book stores. Their stock includes a variety of subjects and collectible items, too.

Record a video of you reading a story for a child in your life.

Randomly give a book to someone.

Use #NationalBookLoversDay to post on social media and spread the word.

The swap So how do we make this a swap? Simple, actually. Just sign up for the swap before the end of the day on Sunday, August 9th here on swap bot. I'll assign partners before noon (pacific time in the USA) on August 10th, and you'll send your 3 partners an email telling them what bookish things you did on August 9th!

You can send the same email to all partners, just use the BCC function for the email. You can include summaries, cover art or details of the books you read if you wish, but it's not a requirement.

Some ideas:

Did you read anything? What is the title and author? Was the book on your TBR?

Did you visit a library or book store? If so, did you find anything new to add to your TBR?

Did you gift any books? If so, who did you give a book to (just a general description, you don't have to get personal)? What book was it?

Have you ever made a recording of yourself reading a book? Was it for someone special or for a group?

Anything book related you did on Aug 9th counts - just tell your partner about it. Again, the email can be as detailed or as basic as you wish - that's up to you. :) I'm not very techie, but I know now that some of you are very creative. :)

If you have ANY questions, please PM me as soon as possible so I can reply! I probably won't see comments left below until after partners are assigned. I'll reply just as soon as I can!
