Description:

I've been saving those security envelopes that come with bills and credit card ad mail for quite a while now, searching for something to do with them, and decided a swap is the best motivation!

This swap is for two partners and two pieces of art: one postcard (4"x6") one ATC (2.5"x3.5")

Send a postcard and an ATC to each of your partners, which means you make two postcards, and two ATCs.

I'm giving a month for the sign up date and a month to make the art--so, since there is not any preferences you need to take into consideration, you can start making your art as soon as you sign up! That could give you up to two months to accumulate the different color and pattern envelopes in your mail and make your art.

Any kind of design or images you want to create from them are fine, and totally up to you, but the main component must be security envelope innards.

You must have at least 4.5 for ratings to participate, and no-sends will get you banned without some serious explanations, and newbies are welcome, but please contact me if you have questions.

This is an international Swap, because I've gotten some interesting security envelopes from overseas, so I know there is some cool stuff out there!

Be creative, and send something you would love to have yourself.

Also!! Put the name of the swap, your name and username on the inside and outside of your envelope. Better to identify the contents if it gets mangled by the post office, and easier to identify which swap it's from so you can contact the sender to say that it's arrived. A padded envelope with a bit of stiff card inside will also protect your art from the dangerous journey through the post office machines!

This sounds like fun = however, my partner better like the colour blue, because all the security envelopes I seem to get here in Australia are blue, and not much variation in pattern either. But I will see what I can do. Isis

At last, something to do with all these envelopes I've been saving. Must say, most of mine are blue too or black, though the patterns are really cool.

this is a great idea! i plan to paint some of the patterns so that the design still shows through :D

Coloring them with a watercolor wash could make some interesting variations. If all of your papers are the same color, you can also add some clear glitter glue, or a translucent interference pant or something for some visual texture.

Paperholic, If I get to be your partner, all blue is great! My favorite color!

For dealing with all the same colors and patterns, sometimes using smaller pieces or narrow strips, arranging the envelope patterns in different directions can make for interesting texture, too.

Another idea I just had! Paper weaving can make dull similar patterns into something interesting, too. As can making tiny accordian pleats or other folds, like origami and such. Cyn

I too have mostly blue and black, both with cool patterns, and I've gotten a few green ones but they have been few and far between. I still have a day or two to decide whether I want to sign up...

Cyn~ I wonder how a book of pages will be ok? 4x4 1/2 ? That would be coo! Stitch and go LOL

Inky Squid (great name) and TwoBlueCrows - thanks for the ideas. I've got quite a few so I can use a few to experiment with. And I've also got a few more patterns as well - and one black one!

Partners are assigned! The game's afoot! Cyn

Question...Does the postcard get mailed naked (not in an envelope)? Or is it supposed to be blank for my partner to use? I have one ATC done so far..love it!

inkysquid 05/24/2007 #

FarStarr: I'm not sure but I sent mine blank :)

FarStarr 05/26/2007 #

Well Inky squid, you'll be getting some of my creations. I'll send the postcard blank if you'd prefer...

inkysquid 05/27/2007 #

anything is fine with me...thank you!!!

Farstarr and Twobluecrows - your stuff is in the postbox. However, since this is a holiday weekend in Australia it probably won't go anywhere until Tuesday. I was a bit delayed getting these done: I found it quite a challenge, altho I am quite pleased with the final result. I arranged to have the 8th off work in order to finish them and get to the post office but (a) I woke up to find our (brick) garden wall had fallen over during the big storm overnight (very squashed and damaged garden), and (b) while I was trying to sort that out, I got a call from work pleading for me to come in as someone else had called in sick. Not the best of days!

Outback Girl - I received yours on Friday - nice example of iris folding (I think that's the right name).

Squished garden??!! So sad! I'm looking forward to them, paperholic.

twobluecrows 06/14/2007 #

Sorry about your garden catastrophe Paperholic! When they get here, they get here and I'll be pleasantly surprised to find something artsy in the mail, as usual! Thanks for the heads up on it! Cyn

twobluecrows 06/14/2007 #

Oops! I just found a two cent stamp on the floor that was supposed to go in the envelope for one of my partners (I used old blank stamped postcards with only 24cent postage on them)

Sorry to whoever got shorted!

Cyn

FarStarr 06/16/2007 #

That was me...I can handle it Cyn! :). Thanks for the great art!

ADRIVAS - yours arrived today. Thank you. You had some interesting black patterns - I was quite envious!

Keep your fingers crossed for me everyone - forecast tonight is for an even worse storm than 2 weeks ago with 125kph winds and tons more rain. Here's hoping nothing else gets blown down (there's a dodgy looking gum tree next door that I shall be keeping my eye on!).
