Description:

This is a swap for spinners, felters, knitters and crocheters.

We will send a package containing:

  1. 2oz/50g approx of roving, tops or handspun wool. Must be 100% pure natural animal fibre.

  2. Accessories to suit your partner's crafting needs. eg. a set of stitch markers; a threading hook; a pair of knitting needles. Try to make this special and personal.

  3. A sheepy novelty, eg. a magnet, pendant, memo pad etc.

Total value of the package should be no more than $10, or 7Euro or £6.

For the first item, you may post preferences here for handspun or roving, including colours, but these will only be suggestions as ultimately this is sender's choice. Do try your best to find things that your partner will love though!

For the second item, it might be a good idea to have a well-stocked Etsy faves list, to give your partner plenty of ideas. I'm not saying this item has to be bought from your Etsy list, it's just for ideas.

Fot the 3rd item, just try to find something cute that your partner will love! It could be a sheepy ATC if they collect them, something little and handmade, or a shop-bought novelty.

I will be strict on participants for this, as it is quite a high value swap and possibly time consuming, especially if you'll be handspinning or dyeing to your partner's likes. No newbies. You will need a minimum of 10 rated reasonable value mailed swaps, with a high percentage of hearts. Flakers will be outed!

I would love some roving/tops in wacky colours, but completely anything is good!

Or if you have your own animals, I'd love some of their natural undyed fluffiness.

Roving or top for me please. I prefer jewel tones but find almost any color acceptable besides pastels.

secret sheep do you want like dog and cat fur???????

SecretSheep 07/31/2009 #

Thankyou! I'm getting some dog and cat fur to put in my sampler blanket now!

Looking forward to this, since I collect sheep items! I am exclusively a crocheter (NO knitting, felting or spinning) and can always use more crochet hooks, any size smaller than K and larger than steel #7. I also would ask that the wool I receive be smooth, not a fuzzy or novelty yarn. (I'm not sure what roving or top refers to?)

SecretSheep 08/ 1/2009 #

@prayncrochet roving/top is the washed and prepared/combed wool ready for spinning. It is, I believe, possible to crochet straight from the roving/tops although I have never tried it. I am sure your partner will be able to provide you with something you can use and love!

Thanks for the explanation. If it would be possible for me to receive wool yarn as opposed to the wool itself, that would be my preference. Thanks!

Oh YES!!!!! A swap just for me......:o)

lej619 08/ 9/2009 #

this is going to be a interesting swap!! yah!! an answer to the "can you crochet straight from the roving/tops?? yes you can you could either roll it into "string" or use what they call pencil roving/tops. I have not done this but have seen it and it is pretty neat. you can also knit with it. or if you like you can even do needle felting.

I would like to spin what you send me. So roving or top in just plain wool is fine. In natural white or in well saturated colours.(no pastels) Or, if you like crazy carding: a crazy batt! :D yes, it is the extremes in spinning I like. :)

Do any of you have an attic covered in fleeces too? :s

SecretSheep 08/15/2009 #

Apparently if you have unwashed fleece that attracts moths the most. So it's good to have some as a decoy. So the horribly coarse wool I have that I'm not going to spin is still there. (Actually I'm just lazy and can't be bothered to bring it down from the attic).

Roving/tops for me please as I love to felt and I just discovered that I don't have 6mm knitting needles!? of course these are only preferences :-) looking forward to whatever the postman brings. Jox
