The theme of this international postcard swap is cats, both in the imagery and in what you write.

Send 1 postcard each to 2 partners. The image on the postcard must contain a cat, or have a cat as the central image. It can be photography or artwork, it can be handmade, but it must be clearly kitty!

Also - equally important - on the back you must write a little bit about a cat or cats. You can write about your cat or cats you own now, ones you owned before or grew up with, copy a short poem about a cat, or talk about the awesome cat that hangs out in your favorite bookstore. Any cat-related prose will do! I'm just looking to "double" the cat theme, and also ensure that no one gets a postcard with no writing on it.

My apologies if I am duplicating any past swaps. I am new here and I searched for cat postcard swaps and didn't see any... so I started my own!

Newbies are welcome if they have a complete profile, with more than just a couple of sentences. No one with a minimal profile or a low rating will be allowed to participate. I reserve the right to ban anyone from this swap. I hope no one will flake, but I think I can angel if you get a no-send and you PM me. There's over a week to send this, and that week includes the USA Thanksgiving holiday, so that should be plenty of time.

I'm advertising this on my own blog so I hope some of my blog readers at http://missivemaven.blogspot.com/ will be participating!

Would you classify tigers or lions as cats for this swap?

FROGGY42 11/13/2009 #

I would love to have a postcard of a tiger or lion. I can only speak for myself, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't be ok to most anyone. ~Gail

I think most cat lovers like cats of any size, but @GreenVelvet should probably make the call on that.

MissiveMaven 11/15/2009 #

I think big cats like lions and tigers would qualify as well as domestic cats, sure! Why not?

(Sorry to take so long to answer that question - I thought I'd get some kind of notification of comments, as the swap host, but apparently not! I'll remember to look at the comments section more regularly now.)

Hey folks - I am SO TICKLED that so many people have joined this swap that I am already plotting the next one. If anyone has thoughts about whether we should do 1 partner or 2 (or 3) next time, and whether I should separate out international and USA only swaps, please let me know. I'm getting excited to see cat postcards already, and the swap hasn't even started yet! :-) Thanks to everyone for joining and supporting this.

I am in Greece and sometimes I see USA only on swaps that I would like to join. I would like you to create two swaps one for those who want only USA and one for those of us who are out of the USA. That way everyone has an opportunity to join all over the world. thank you and best wishes, Deb

I had hoped this was just for domesticated cats. All the references in the description are for domestic moggies!

makka 11/17/2009 #

if I joined i will not want the big cats. I am watching

I would like to receive a PC such as the kitty in the picture of this swap not a tiger or lion. Thanks! :)

I love all cats. I would love to receive a photo of someones domestic cat or a drawing of them. Greenvelvet, for your next fun swap two partners would be great. And I like having both International and U.S. combined, but that is just my opinion. I was thinking about your fun web site blog on the envelopes that were hand drawn, or decorated and mailed to you. That could be a fun new swap idea. Ciao.

I have the. best. postcards. for this swap!

MissiveMaven 11/18/2009 #

Thanks for all your comments, everyone. I am going to stick with my original arbitration and say large cats like tigers and lions are OK for this swap, though I had domestic cats in mind when I originally thought it up. For the next swap, I will clarify that it should be domestic/housecat only. AND I will create separate USA only/international swaps next time too. I'll set up those swaps this weekend after I assign partners for this one.

For anyone who gets me, I totally don't mind pictures of big cats! I love lions and tigers as well as domestic cats! Send me whatever you got!

Happy Swapping!!! Sometime over this weekend I will start up the second set of cat postcard swaps. :-)

I sent my cards this morning and wrote about them on my blog . If you are my partners (Zion and xchiakix), and don't want to see the cards before they are in your mailbox, don't go read my blog because I have posted the scans and a bit about what I wrote.

Just one more day left to send by the deadline, for the 13 people in this swap who still haven't sent their postcards...

EvilSeedlet 11/28/2009 #

I sent my cards today, not sure if they will be postmarked today or Monday though :S
