Description:

Are you a bird lover and dotee maker? This is the swap for you. You will create one dotee for one partner shaped like a bird or made with bird fabric.

A dotee is a mini art doll, 3" to 5" with a loop for hanging. A tail is not mandatory.

This swap is open to new Swap-bot members but I will be checking profiles for any no-sends or bad ratings.

And this is a US-only swap due to rising postage prices. If it is popular, then I will host an international one after the holidays.

Hey! Hold on there! If you don't put a beaded tail, it's not a "dotee"! Without the tail, they are just little sausage-shaped, no-name mini dolls. Bleaah! Bo-ring!

To each his/her own opinion, but if you make a bird, it may have a different kind of tail. And in my opinion, sometimes the tails are just a mess, unless the beads/charms tie in directly to the doll or theme.

Plus the maker may want to use the bottom of the doll to make legs....

What about a face? Does it have to have a human face or can it have a bird face? I can see the tail can be the legs?

smmarrty 11/16/2009 #

It's up to you - you are the artist. Bird face or human face okay.

And even if you have a traditional dotee tail, it doesn't necessarily have to be beaded does it?

smmarrty 11/16/2009 #

No it does not.

Garrent 11/19/2009 #

Putting in my two cents... I've used all kinds of things for the tail on my Dotees: beads, ribbon, leaves, polymer charms, whatever ties in with the theme. I believe Dotees need tails of some sort, but personally, I like the creativity that plays in the composition in the ones I send out and receive.

Thanks, Garrent. I also use all kinds of things to make tails but I also make feet &/or legs, depending on the doll.

Personally, I'd love a crow or raven stuffie/dotee, like these:
Crow
Patchwork Bird
Raven
Crow Stuffy

I think that any of these ideas could be a potential dotee-type design, if not necessarily the traditional dotee doll.

So, is this a "dotee" swap or a "stuffie" swap? The ones that panda2778 are definitely not anywhere near a "dotee".

I do love the makers own interpertation of "tails", that's what makes them unique, but I do think if its a "dotee" swap, it should be dotees, not "stuffies", no offense meant.

It is a dotee swap - 3" - 6" in size, with a bird face or people face, tail can be bird tail or beaded or other. I like the creativity of other dotee-makers so I like to leave things open to interpretation - just go with your instincts....This is supposed to be fun, people. It's not rocket science!

Just looked at the links - these are excellent ideas/jumping off points/creative kicks in the b---. Just have fun. It's all about the fun.

I agree smmarrty. I have never been in a dotee swap. It seems like everyone gets so territorial about them. It really is about having fun and being artistic. I tried to join a couple before but was told I could not hand sew them?!? C'mon! It's a straight stitch seam for crap sakes. I love the bird theme. Awesome!!!!

smmarrty 11/27/2009 #

I have been in dotee swaps here and another site. Not all are fabric - some are made from yarn, clay, twigs, paper clay. The sky is the limit - have fun and use your imagination. And remember - birds have feathers....

Yay - eight swappers. I will allow sign-ups until about 10 PM California time and then partners will assigned late tomorrow night. Let me know if you have any questions.
