You must have a 4.9 and above and have no recent 1's too participate. If you flake on this swap and any other swap in this group you will be removed and will not be allowed to return to the Nuts for Sewing Group. What is a Potato Baker Bag?

TerryF 12/ 8/2009 #

You use it to bake potatoes in the microwave - much greener than using plastic wrap and it allows the moisture to escape without the potatoes drying out.

whiteway 12/ 8/2009 #

Thanks @TerryF I"ve never heard of that before!

TC 12/ 8/2009 #

I have a potato baking bag, and let me tell you, they really do live up to the hype. Microwaved potatoes tend to overcook, but when you do them in one of these bags, they are more tender and flakier than just cooking them naked.

Here is a site that describes potato bags and other uses for them.

Here are some links to tutorials:
Feathered Fibers
A Time to Stitch (picture heavy)

NOTE: These MUST be made from 100% cotton fabrics and cotton batting, and sewn with cotton thread!! Use of polyester could result in the bag catching on fire in the microwave!!

Sorry you all! I just posted the Tutorial for it. Been a couple crazy days at home. Please follow all directions. And yes @TerryF has wonderful tips.

Uh-oh! I just read through this tute today to get started, and she actually uses pre-quilted fabric, although she does not say this anywhere in the supplies list at the beginning! It is added as an afterthought in brackets after one of the steps.

So we either have to find prequilted fabric that is 100% cotton (and I don't think that exists - I have checked my prequilted cotton and it all has polyester batting and what looks like some kind of shiny nylon thread for the quilting - and this is the good stuff from quilt stores) OR we have to prequilt the fabric ourselves before we can cut and put this together. Yikes, not exactly what I expected and this will add time to the sewing.

I will ask biasbabe and TC to come here and comment.

Ok you all In Light of the situation and @TerryF good detective work. Please let me know if you all would mind if I extended the date on this swap at till the end of January till I find 100% quilt fabric. Please let me know as soon as you can. We got hit with a snow storm at the moment.

biasbabe 01/ 7/2010 #

Joann Fabric's does carry 100% all cotton pre-quilted fabric Take a look Quilted Fabric

This is what I bought the other day. I bought blue and the white, I didn't even dawn on me to check about the polyester in the fabric just the thread. But I checked the bolt cause I always write down what I buy and it says 100% cotton. Hope this helps, But let me know if you all would like the swap to remain at the same date or extended at least another week to by this fabric?. Considering the circumstances.

TerryF 01/ 8/2010 #

I am going to prequilt my own fabric to be safe, and would appreciate an extension. Thx!

TerryF 01/ 9/2010 #

Thx for the extension dear!

biasbabe 01/ 9/2010 #

Heads up You all I found a batting that is 50% cotton and 50% natural fibers from bambo no polyester. At least that is what the bag says. It is called Bambo Batting. Got to check it out.

biasbabe 01/10/2010 #

If you also find that it is too thick to sew through, use a jeans needle.

1 I used 100% percent cotton material. for the outside.

2 I used 50% cotton batting 50% all natural bamboo fibers with no polyesters

3 I learned how to quilt my first piece of fabric today for this project. So have fun everyone.

I have advised my partner that I may not make the deadline for this, but that I will send the swap by Monday (Feb. 1) at the latest.

TerryF 01/30/2010 #

Swap sent January 30, partner advised.
