Description:

I participated in my first zentangle swap a couple of months ago and found them very theraputic and relaxing to do. You can check out a great zentangle website at http://www.zentangle.com. Traditionally they are black lines on a white background, but I will leave the colors up to you. I have some that I really like that have colored backgrounds or colored ink. Let's keep it to no more than ONE color and black or white, though, for this swap. You are welcome to do a traditional black & white one, too! The color (if you use one) can be the background or the ink.

Send 1 ATC to 2 partners for a total of 2 Zentangle ATCs. Your ATC's should be the traditional size - 2.5 x 3.5 and have a sturdy backing.

Experienced Zentaglists may join - but understand that you may receive a first time zentangle in exchange. I am hosting this swap so newbies can get their feet wet and get some ratings.

I am going to make this a pretty quick turn around so you newbies can get some quick ratings!

I will angel any no-sends - so please let me know if you don't get yours and I will send you one.

Yippee! Thank you so much for starting this swap. I have already been practicing and I can see how quickly these can become addictive. You're a sweetie! Patti

What is a good suggestion for a sturdy backing? Would cardstock be good or would a heavier cardboard be better?

Mamacita 01/20/2010 #

Can we mail these as a postcard, or does it need to be in an envelope? Thanks!

I feel like I just opened a door on a whole new world and it's inhabited by amazing art and fantastic artists. I'll be up late tonite working on my very first ATC swaps--I could be receiving art from anywhere around the world--very, very exciting!

eviebits - personally I think cardstock would be fine - but something thicker is OK, too.

Mamacita - the size (2.5 x 3.5) is too small for the PO to mail (I think!) You should send them in an envelope.

CatLinn9 - Be careful - it is very addictive! I find myself up way later than usual working on ATCs! I finally hung up a string, got mini clothespins and created an ATC Gallery in my workspace! It is inspirational to look at all the cool art!

Glad to have you all aboard!

I use a playing card for the base, and then put a peice of paper covering it completely for my info. Some people who do the original drawings though use fancy drawing paper or card stock;

I just made my first to zentangle ATC's. Very relaxing and fun. Now I want to do more. I've been waiting for a swap for people new to zentangles. I've been dying to try these.

jj9jj 01/21/2010 #

I like them also because you can put some blanks and a marker or 2 in a pouch and do them anywhere, too!!

Manurnakey 01/22/2010 #

Can they be made digitally? Like drawn using a computer program?

jj9jj 01/22/2010 #

I personally don't have a problem with digitally drawn Zentangles as long as they are drawn 'by hand/mouse' with a printing/drawing program - not using pre-drawn shape with a fill function. Sound like an interesting theme for a new swap, too! I have not tried digitally drawn Zentangles!

wow I love this idea - off to make one right now!

man these are addictive I can't stop. I did one and now I just want to doodle a zentangle all the time they are so fun and cool!! love the swap I can't wait to see others art work!

Manurnakey 01/26/2010 #

I've drawn a couple of zentangles by hand - and then scanned them into a computer to darken them. I'm drawing with pencil and they just don't look nice in their original format. Is this okay for the swap?

jj9jj 01/26/2010 #

I don't see why not. This is a newbies swap - so trying new things seems to be appropriate!

EvelynRose 01/26/2010 #

I have never tried this form of drawing, but it sounds awesome! Can't wait to get started.

Vendetti 01/26/2010 #

Oh poo! I won't finished with my three swaps by the time this one is up. I hope you do another so I can participate. I'm really into trying these out.

jj9jj 01/26/2010 #

I am sure I will do another one before long! Keep watching!

jj9jj 01/26/2010 #

Manurnakey I have also seen a few zentangles with marker over the pencil and the pencil makes a kind of shadow which looked pretty interesting.

Manurnakey 01/27/2010 #

Hmmm...I might try using marker over the pencil if I can find a nice sharp tipped marker. What I've found locally is disappointing. But I'll keep looking.

mulerider 01/28/2010 #

i find that sharpie or micron work the best
