About Me

I am a high school teacher. I teach Drafting, Architecture, and Digital Electronics.

I love Crafting. I like all types of crafting. My recent passions are tatting, polymer clay, ATCs, and making/sending postcards to friends and family.

I love the color Teal. I also like Blue and Green. I collect glass beads...and will one day use some of them.

I am a Cat person =^.^=! Our family has an older cat named Kismet, who is a stray I found in the middle of the road. My daughter has a young cat named Maximus who she rescued from a shelter - so I have a grandkitten? And I have a precious Persian gray cat named Gandalf who is going to be my Empty Nest baby when my son moves out after college :)

I have two kids. I have a 20 yr old son and a 14 yr old daughter. I have an awesome husband, who I'm still crazy about after over twenty years together!

I play online MMORPGs (massive multi-player online role playing games) with my husband almost every night. In World of Warcraft I play a Blood Elf Priest. He plays a Tauren Warrior. I love to quest and cook and fish in-game. He likes to do dungeons and raid.

ABOUT MY DAUGHTER - she will be participating in Kid's swaps. Julie loves purple and red. She likes drawing and making origami animals. She loves origami books/directions and paper. She likes cats, dragons, dogs, and Nintendo. She loves Super Mario Bros and has a Wii-U and 3DS. She is fourteen and likes to craft with whatever supplies I happen to have spread out at the time. Also she is starting her own craft supply stash and welcomes any little additions.

Postcards: I prefer to receive postcards, naked. So they have cancelled postage on them :)

Favorite Music

I have very eclectic taste in music. My favorite songs, in no particular order, are: Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth, You Don't Love Me Anymore by Weird Al Yankovic, Inside Out by Eve 6, House of the Rising Sun by the Animals, and several Mozart symphonies.

Favorite Books

I've read every single Agatha Christie book I could find published. I'm sure I've missed a few, but I just love Hercule Poirot and Jane Marple. Recently I've been exploring her drama/romances under the name Mary Westmacott!

I also read "The Cat Who..." series by Lilian Jackson Braun. I believe her to be a true cat person. She seems to understand exactly what it's like to be owned by a cat. And I'm currently exploring Kerry Greenwood, thanks to a swapbot friend recommendation.

I like reading OLD Science Fiction. I love finding old dusty books that talk about how the world will change in the far distant future (1990, 2000, etc.). It's cool to find people that were close as well as to laugh at stuff that is way out there!

Favorite Movies

Raising Arizona - with Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter. BEST MOVIE EVER! It's the only movie I own...I'm more of a renter type of person :)

Favorite Television

The Simpsons - makes me laugh every time; Doctor Who - Tom Baker and the newly revived series; Currently watching: Elementary, Face-off, Skin Wars, Supernatural, Dexter, and Family Feud (with Steve Harvey). I watch a lot of stuff on Netflix. I really like Masterpiece Mystery and weird Science Fiction stuff. My family has watched all 3 Sharknado movies together...with popcorn...and no distractions. They are so bad they are hilarious. We laughed and laughed. We are looking forward to Sharknado IV at the end of July!!!

Favorite Crafts

I realized that it might help a partner in a swap if they knew what kind of crafts I like and dislike.

Crafts I Like (alphabetically): Art Journaling, ATCs, Drawing, Making Miniatures (dollhouse scale), Origami, Polymer Clay, Random Acts of Kindness, Recycling/Repurposing Crafts, and Tatting.

I prefer to work in small scale. I love making itty bitty things. They can be quite a challenge!

Crafts I Can't Do: Knitting (drop too many stitches), Sewing clothes

Craft Items I Collect: Cat Fabric (1/4yd to 1yd pieces) - these will eventually be part of a huge cat quilt. Itty Bitty Stickers - the smaller the better

I am allergic to anything that contains an evergreen oil (like oil from a fir tree). I don't mind passing along things that contain it to friends or family - but please make sure it is clearly marked. I break out with a painful rash if I accidentally use it. I'm also allergic to wool but my kitties love it...so wool yarn is fine...if in a plastic bag.

I Recycle and Repurpose a lot. So the packaging for swaps I send will most likely be reused or creatively made from recycled materials. This is more about being good to Mother Earth than saving money...even though they frequently go hand in hand :)

My handwriting is awful! I'm very sorry for this. This comes from working in computer environments for 20+ years. I rarely write more than a hall pass by hand...and I'll type that if I have the time :) I am working on creative lettering for mail art...but its a long process.

SWAP ETIQUETTE - I try to rate all received swaps within a few days of getting them. I am a very responsible swapper - I don't flake, so if you have not received a swap from me, please let me know. I promise that I do not mark anything sent until I've physically put it into the mail at my local post office. I'm also a crazy organizer, so I have a little book where I log when I sign up, send, receive, and get rated for swaps :)

Swapping Philosophy

I've cut back on the number of swaps I join for several reasons. First, because I enjoy International Swaps...but tend to go "heavy" on the content and thus incur expensive postage. Also, I like to take time to read a person's profile (more than once) and envision them as a friend when I'm preparing a swap package - and the ole brain cells can't juggle 10 friend's profiles at once :) And lastly because I want to put ALL my focus on a swap until it's sent.

Food and Beverages

If I'm in a swap that lends itself to "feeding me or quenching my thirst" then here are some things I like...or don't like.

Likes: Herbal Teas with Orange or Lime, Constant Comment by Bigelow, All kinds of hot chocolates :) I drink hot tea or iced tea at least once a day. I love milk chocolate but it doesn't ship well . I prefer fruity over savory. I am addicted to fruit flavored tic tacs!

Dislikes: I hate coffee...flavored, smell, etc. It's a serious disgust for me. I also don't like spicy things. I don't like minty teas or alcohol.

Comment: I and J are beautiful. I almost did jicama too! I think the iceberg lettuce would have been boring as light as it really is -- we're artists, we have the right to interpret things however we want. ;-)
Response: HAHA - thanks so much :) I agree - we have to use artistic license sometimes. Thanks so much for the <3

Comment: Thank you for the colorful 2-from-1 postcard, Helga. Unfortunately I can't keep it because I'm allergic to the smell of nail polish :( As soon as I opened my mailbox my sinuses swelled up! Guess I should add a note to my profile. UPDATE: Thanks so much for going above & beyond by sending me your marvelous geometric kaleidoscope as a re-send. An extra ♥ to you, Helga.
Response: Oh my gosh I am so sorry! I usually don't use nail polish but I was spring cleaning and found some cute ones...I'm going to send you another card to keep. I'll send a hand drawn one :)

Thank you for the offer, Helga, I will definitely keep that in mind. I'm so glad you liked the ancient HK card. I was hoarding it, but I couldn't think of a nicer person for it to go to. I'm doing great now. I hope that trend continues. I've made some lifestyle changes for the better and they have made a world of difference. I continue to pull out your gifts when I need some random happiness. They are so special to me. Thank you so much for your kindness. It has gone a long way.

LOVE the Kismet story! Thanks for sharing with me. I had a heck of a time with my 4 cats while I was making the toys!~ I'd get one done set it down to start another and the 1st one would be gone. LOL
Just rub the toys between your hands to regenerate the smell for Kismet. We use "Cosmic Catnip" bought in a small tub at Pet Co. The scent lasts about a whole year!

Loonstruck on Jul 14, 2016:

Thank you for the wonderful randomail. What's sad is that I knew that 'fria' means cold but damned if I could pull it up out of my memory bank to convey it to someone else. I needed the good laugh today. Thank you!

Thank you for the awesome MPU Randomail package you sent to me. I love how you sent it in a Chinese take out box. The lucky stars are amazing! I've never seen any that are that perfect. I love the clay pieces. If they're not too heavy, I may make them into brooches. The crocheted octopus is adorable as are the ocean critters stickers. Thanks for your kind letter as well. I plan to take some of your advice. :)
