Description:

I participated in a swap similiar to this in May and loved it. So here it is again!

You will be swapping a small manilla envelope (6" x 9") filled with paper ephemera/collage materials from magazines, catalogs, fancy papers, old cards, newspapers, photos, letters, etc. Envelopes don't have to be bursting at the seams, but should have at least a dozen or more good collage items enclosed. It is more interesting to include more than just magazine clippings but that is okay. Variety is key!

You should be able to get away with one or two regular first class stamps for each envelope for this swap.

If you don't already have a collection of items already lurking around it could be a fun project in & of itself to comb through ready to discard magazines etc. looking for some cool imagery, fonts etc. Everyone knows purging brings joy!

You have TWO partners for this swap. This means you will be sending at least 24 collage items but more is encouraged.

There is no value on this swap because they should be items you already have. Please expend some effort to collect and cut out neat and creative supplies to give your partners some great collaging opportunities!

Collage/assemblage are my thing! I'm excited to paw thru my mountain of paper...and I just sorted a HUGE stack of magazines, plus I'm downsizing my life and I appear to save every single magazine I've ever purchased... so my partners could get some real surprises!

amybelle 07/30/2006 #

i see there's a min # of papers to send. Is there a min. size? I've been in similar swaps where you send "x" number of sheets that are at least "x by x" in size.

diynamite 07/31/2006 #

Nah, no minimum size.

When I did this swap in May, my partner sent me dozens of magazine cut outs. It was nice because they were already perfectly cut out so I could just glue them in projects. I imagine it would be like that so no size neccessary. I also imagine people will do more than a dozen cut outs as they find more interesting things but that is just the minimum.

user2461 08/ 1/2006 #

My first swap...when do you get the addresses? When do you need to send it? any other advice would be helpful. I have so much stuff, and want more more more....K

user2148 08/ 2/2006 #

For my partners... If you need some ideas - I'd love more foreign text pages, vintage pictures - especially nudes, botanical, vintage postcards, fabric, lace, etc. Oh, and I love music sheets! or old fonts...

Please make sure you have some info out there either here or in your profile so when I receive my two names I can try and accomodate!! I can't wait!!

user2161 08/ 2/2006 #

I like vintage photos, retro images, odd or unusual paper, lace, small embellishments, I do alot of ATCs.

diynamite 08/ 2/2006 #

You will get an email when the addresses are available on Sept. 1 :) then you need to send the envelopes out on Sept. 14th. You may begin assembling your materials now, though. Contact me individually if you have any more questions that the FAQ section doesn't answer.

amybelle 08/ 4/2006 #

This is my first swap and I'm so excited! I like scrapbooking, collage and altered art. I like gothic and retro images, and anything exotic-looking.

T 08/15/2006 #

So it's okay to have more than just paper, right? Because my envelopes have all kinds of "stuff"--trim, lace, weird stuff--as well as papers. I like the idea of getting things that I wouldn't necessarily pick myself, and then creating from that mix.

roberta51503 08/16/2006 #

Is it ok to send copies? We have some sheet music that my husband's grandfather wrote the music and some words for, would be willing to share if it's ok.

memmu 08/19/2006 #

For my swap partners... I like all kinds of papers, foreign magazine cutouts or pages, old photos or other b&w stuff, stamps, old postcards, retro images, lovely patterned papers, almost anything... :) Just enjoy and make me a nice envelope with different kinds of material! Thanks!!!

nchantin 08/21/2006 #

I'm new to Swap-Bot and this will be my first swap! I love vintage items, papers, old text, cancelled postage stamps, sheet music, wallpaper, and embellishments. I love anything Paris themed as I collect Eiffel Towers. I will be sharing the same items with my swap partners.

catlingmex 08/21/2006 #

I like most things except goth, "dark", or really New-Agey stuff. Also nothing too too "cute." I particularly enjoy texts in different languages and fonts, suns/stars/celestial, African-looking things or patterns, stained glass look, anything Catholic, leaf/tree shapes, fish, turtles, otters, dragonflies, butterflies, robin birds, Shrek, Spiderman, 1950's and 60's, maps, old tickets/receipts, knights and Medieval, scrollwork ...

chaoticartworks 08/22/2006 #

I've participated in these types of swaps on several of the 15 ATC groups I belong to. They are so much fun! It's exciting to get new and different thing to use in art projects. I'm filling my envies now!

user3062 08/23/2006 #

Well this is exciting. This is my first swap but I do have a lot of goodies to send out. I really enjoy anything retro, old buttons, pretty paper, red and pink are some of my fav colors, old postcards, library cards and trims of all sorts. Lately I have been looking for photos with doors (who knew :). Please no gothic or new age items. This is fun. I will start loading my goodie bags sometime this week. Maggie

JerseyTjej 08/23/2006 #

I normally check the person's profile that I am swapping with for specific clues or likes...Is everyone updated?, LOL!

ScrapUSA 08/23/2006 #

Gosh! Don't know where to start! This is too exciting!! So I should be getting 2 envelopes ready and on September 1st I will be emailed the name and address of my partners? Is that right?! And can I send my envelopes before the due date if it's ready to go?

WatersOfMarch 08/24/2006 #

Do you all think it is OK if the envelope (and items inside) are a little larger than 6 x 9?

user2017 08/24/2006 #

Strawberry 08/23/2006 I'm lookig so forward to this exchange. My favorite things to get would be anything vintage(postage cancellations, photos of people, receipts, fashion). Please no magazine cutouts. user2747 08/25/2006 #

user2995 08/25/2006 #

Sounds like most of us agree, cute is OUT, vintage, ephemera and fibers are HOT, HOT, HOT. I'm excited about trading "stuff" and getting rid of some of my things that need a new home!
I assume we'll get our partners' info after the deadline?

WatersOfMarch 08/25/2006 #

For my partners, I love vintage items as well, and old photos, nudes, fun textures, handmade paper, paper with vintage/retro patterns, old, funky wallpaper remnants, birds, leaves, words, trees, etc. Not too into magazine cutouts or cutesy stuff (e.g. animal pictures)as I have stacks of magazines at home, but if there is a perfect image I am open to that. Looking forward to sending out goodies and getting goodies as well!

dreamstealer 08/26/2006 #

Whoever my partners are...I don't care for cutsy things... I like handmade papers..oriental papers, old photos, Carnival images.....bright colors and black and white...

user2782 08/26/2006 #

I love vintage items (like everyone else here!), mainly from the 1940s-1960s ( especially mod), as well as turn-of-the-century (but not overly flowery/Victorian). I love old photos, postcards (used/written on), wallpaper, patterns, ads, ephemera, birds, fashion, children's book illustrations (yay), travel, etc. Magazine cutouts okay, esp. if they are vintage fashion type stuffs.

ililziv 08/29/2006 #

what about buttens? and charms? or is it just paper goods?

ililziv 08/29/2006 #

I love old photos, postcards, ephemera, vintage children's book illustrations. I love stickers - unique kinds please I love vintage buttons and ribbons (but not sure if we allowed to send those :)

user2768 08/31/2006 #

I love old postcards and photos, handwritten letters, nudes, vintage, earth-tones, Asian items, but not too crazy about cute (kids) or religous stuff. I like the outdoors/nature stuff like trees, leaves, snowflakes, pinecones, flowers.

Prpldy 08/31/2006 #

I have my envelopes ready to send and they are pretty full.....they will go out as soon as I have my names and addies. Hope who ever gets them, hope they will enjoy them.

user3288 08/31/2006 #

Sounds like we all like the same things. This is my first swap but am looking forward to sending out goodies. I was just at an awesome estate sale and picked up lots of old photo's, cards, old books and more...so have LOTS to share. This should be fun.

user1106 09/ 1/2006 #

cherriza 09/ 1/2006 #

wow a lot of people are being pretty specific I hope that I can accommmodate what you want because I'm limited on what I have to give. Me just stuff the envelope with what you want. I'm just starting to collect.

user3283 09/ 1/2006 #

What I'm into: 70's design, modernist stuff, Japanese fabric in fact I love pattered fabric of all varieties, typography of all sorts, and just stuff in general. Thanks alot

user3189 09/ 3/2006 #

I pretty much love it all except "cutesy".

Thanks! :) Just stuff some cool stuff in the envelope for me!

igobylorib 09/ 3/2006 #

For my partners, I prefer vintage or vintage-looking. I am not a big fan of magazine pictures, so random papers, trims and buttons totally make me smile.

jagoda 09/ 4/2006 #

I didn't know people are going to be this specific in their requests and I already sent my envelopes today, so to my partners: I sent squares of paper for backgrounds, some cut-outs from magazines and old children's books and some stickers for embelishements. If you don't like what I sent you, please contact me via swap-bot mail and I will try to work it out.

user1304 09/ 5/2006 #

Don't feel bad Flecto, I sent without realizing people would comment with specifics as well. Same with my partners, if you're unhappy, feel free to mail me. I did send a lot of various papers from my collection, literally packing the envelopes, so I do hope you find the papers enjoyable.

user2782 09/ 7/2006 #

I'm sorry if I seemed overly specific with my little wants post up there...I'm very easy to please, so if you're my partner, don't fret or anything. I'll be giddy to go through an envelope of whatever I get!

user3164 09/ 8/2006 #

wendy1791 09/13/2006 #

I received an envelope from Regina yesterday, all the way from SWEDEN. It was full of fun, interesting goodies. Thanks, Regina!

This is my first swap and I'm not sure how to provide a feedback rating for Regina, or even how to find her swap-bot user I.D. Can someone help? Thank you.

Reina

gem 09/14/2006 #

re: leaving ratings: According to the "Rating Info" link (right under FAQs upper left corner of page), the ratings link for your swappee wont appear until a week after the mail deadline.

And everyone who is fretting about the specific-ness of members "here's what I like" postings - DON'T! It just helps people get an idea of what themes you're into (or not) but in no way is it a "please send me X items" - most swappers enjoy a surprise, but hey if you happpen to have these items I'm into, all the better. Ya'know? It's always good to check your swappees profile but there's no big deal if you want to be totally random too :)

I would like to add one comment to all new swappers - PLEASE identify your swap with some kind of info, whether it's a note in the package, a marking on the envelope or a quick email "Hi, I'm so-and-so from here-or-there and I sent you something for such-and-such swap, hope you get it!", etc - Alot of us join multiple swaps at a buncha various sites and it's sometimes hard to tell who has sent something if all you have is a return address that doesn't match up to any name you recognize from anywhere. (Right now in fact I have a big envie of greeat collage supplies that I have NO IDEA what swap it's for or what site/member it's from and will have to snail-mail a thank you just so they know I got it!)

Thanks and I hope my swappees like the materials I've sent ... I didn't load down the envelopes but hopefully I picked some relevent stuff for you :) Take care!

~ gem ~

user3151 09/14/2006 #

Thanks for the info, Gem. I did, in fact, include a note with my name and user I.D. indicating this was a swap-bot.com swap. I know some user names (like mine) don't correspond with actual names, so better to be safe and include both.

Reina :)

mari 09/14/2006 #

L. Smith - thanks - got your things today - love them!

Zmrzlina 09/15/2006 #

user3283 09/19/2006 #

Help, am I being dumb? I don't know who sent me stuff. They gave me real names not swap-bot names (exactly like I did too, so I'm not complaining) I just want to post thank you's to them and sort out their ratings! So if you sent to L. Smith then drop me a message! Thanks

user3151 09/19/2006 #

user2250 09/20/2006 #

I got my envelope from Robyn in Australia today! So much fun to open and ogle all the goodies! Thanks so much! -Molly

user1457 09/20/2006 #

I got my envelope from Robyn on Monday. Great stuff, you did a great job Robyn and it was so fun getting a Dingo stamp on the envie!

I think when it comes down to rating your partners it gives you their real names and not the Swap-bot name so you shouldn't have a prob forestmum.

user2461 09/21/2006 #

Hey, I don't have anything yet, and this is my first swap...you ten people who haven't sent your stuff yet, please, please, I am so anxious, I can't wait to thank you...but I am leaving town for 5 days, so I will get it when I return, I hope.
