would love to join this, but with only a week between sign up and send dates there is no way I can do it. Never mind

yes, I find it also unfortunate ;-(

missbianca 08/31/2007 #

I had always thought that a tussie mussie was a very small flower arrangement, possibly using dried flowers, put into the middle of a small dollie. It was told to me that Victorian ladies used to carry them.

Same over here .... LOVE the idea but 1 week - no way I can manage that - I would need more time to create something adorable for my partner!

Wanda 08/31/2007 #

That is not a tussie mussie you have pictured and described. You have pictured and you are describing a cornucopia. miss bianca is correct. A tussie mussie is a small bouquet of flowers, either fresh or dried w/perfumed oils, gathered in a doily. It was us personal

Pink or Green and victorian please

ShabbyJules 09/ 7/2007 #

Thanks Robin and yes i have always known them as cornucopias too but the vixtorians Tussie mussie holders which was filled with flowers is where these got to be known as that. There are a few blog swaps at the moment in this theme,so i used that term to describe them so people would be familiar with that name.Whatever their name they are gorgeous little keepsakes reminiscent of a bygone era.

Oh i am soooo in. Love love love making Tussie Mussie's. Ok my hints are pink, white, ribbon, lace, ruffles, pale blue, mint green. oh and i love old sheet music and vintage papers too. I think that should help my partner :) Oh and by all means fill it with buttons, scrappin stuff. bits and pieces or CANDY hee hee.

And a bit of trivia, Lady's in the Victorian Era carried Tussie Mussies filled with flowers to disguise the ghastly smells as they walked down the streets. As you can imagine the streets were very smelly and diseased back then. Just a bit of useful trivia for you.

Just an addendum to my previous comment - My 'hints' were Vintage and Halloween, but Vintage and Thanksgiving would be great too. Either one.

I finished mine tonight. It was so enjoyable to make. I had thought about it for weeks, made and gathered the 'components' over that time, and tonight finally put them together. It turned out pretty, I think. I really hope my partner will like it. It will be going out in tomorrow's mail, unless I run into a packaging problem. There will be a photo on my Flicker account in a day or two. Thanks so much for coming up with this interesting and different swap, Jules! :)
