About Me

vAlt textvI'm a wife, mother and grandmother, from South Texas. My interests include art - especially outsider type, drawn and painted by hand - native plants, herbs, parish life, directing and teaching children's religious education, history, cemeteries, blogging, playing video games (Sims2, The Sims2:Pets, Sims Castaway, Viva Pinata, Harvest Moon:Magical Melody, Animal Crossing), playing GoPets online, vintage vinyl dolls, handmade doll clothes and much more.

crh

My favorite books

-The Bible, especially The Catholic Youth Bible

-all books by Michael D. O'Brien

-books about permaculture and related subjects

-books by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - His short story, Eyes of the Blue Dog is amazingly wonderful.

My favorite movies

The Passion of the Christ, My Family/Mi Familia, almost all of M. Knight Shayamalan's movies, and the oldies, -It's a Wonderful Life, You Can't Take it With You, Harvey, and others.

My favorite TV shows

Survivor, Top Chef, The Next Food Network Star, Project Runway, Top Design, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, Jon & Kate + 8, Little People Big World, 17 Kids and Counting, CSI(Las Vegas), and ER.

My favorite crafts to do

Painting and drawing postcards or 'odd sizes'. I also crochet, but only VERY simple things. I also do some quilting, but other than that, I really dislike sewing, although I LOVE sewn things like dolls, stuffed animals and especially doll clothes. But I would NOT want to make them, myself. Or at least not more than once a year. LOL! I also like whacko things like the various different kinds of shoes painted in bright pastels hanging from the tree in my front yard.

Some swap item ideasvAlt textv

  • my newest obsession is 'Crazy Bones' - little 1 inch plastic figures. They sell at Walmart in the trading card section:$1.97 a pack (6 figures and 6 stickers, plus a drawstring bag). Even open pkgs or single ones would thrill me! :)
  • trading cards of almost any kind (but not sports related)
  • ethnic
  • folk art
  • outsider art
  • vintage
  • kitschy
  • weird
  • funky and retro things all make me happy.

  • gnome items
  • tote bags
  • zip bags
  • anything I can use for bento (decorative picks, dividers, small cute containers, rice molds, egg molds, etc.)
  • serving trays

  • an empty heart-shaped candy box, any size, but especially large ones

  • vintage vinyl dolls
  • doll clothes (for 6" - 18" vinyl 'toddler' (non-baby) dolls and for Barbies/Kens), especially vintage or handmade doll clothes.
  • miniatures 1:6 scale (like Barbie sizes) or 1:12 scale (for petite Blythe types) - scale doesn't have to be totally accurate - either bought items or crafted from clay or re-purposed items.
  • I like jewelry, and my ears are pierced. My favorite styles are ethnic, organic and/or big and chunky (plastic, metal, wood or whatever)bracelets, earrings and necklaces mostly.
  • homemade soap

  • anything with the initial 'W'
  • anything 'artsy'
  • small bottles of acrylic paint, any color

My favorite colors

Greens, reds, and mostly dark, bright or jewel tones, as opposed to pastels, for most things. I also love plaid!

Halloween Preferences:

I love Halloween!!! But not bloody, gory, devil or evil looking things. My favorites are:

  • Pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, or other "veggie people"

  • Skeletons, both regular ones and Dia de los Muertos style

  • Most things, barring the things I said I don't like at the top of this catagory.

Christmas Preferences:

I don't think there is anything Christmas-y that I would dislike, except the spelling of Christmas as 'Xmas', or anything off-color. Favorite themes would be...

  • Nativity (or any part of it)

  • Posada

  • Elves

  • etc.

Comment: Wanda your Thanksgiving House is simply wonderful! The details - embroidered edges, collage and the sweet quote on the back are so neat! This house is surely one of my favorite ones! Thank you so much!
Response: I am SO glad you like it! It did give me some problems...as is my Christmas Row House. But, yes, I love blanket stitch and it seems so cozy and autumnal to me, so that is why I used it on the Thanksgiving House. I do try to use a quotation or short poem on the backs of the row houses that I can. The tiny vintage ecru crocheted lace I used on it, was some I was thrilled to receive in a forum tag. ;)

Comment: Wonderful card. Thanks!
Response: I'm so glad that you liked it. :) I really love old cemeteries and cemetery statuary. Sadly, some of the great, large old statuary in that cemetery where I took the photo that I cut that piece from, was severely vandalized a couple of years ago. I don't know if that statue is still standing or if it has been repaired if it was one of the ones that was wrecked. Thanks for the rating and heart.
