Description:

I was making some ATCs for a different swap today, and I found some great paint chips I got from Home Depot. I really liked the effect of the different coordinating shades, and thought: "Great swap theme!" The requirements are, as usual, the size (2.5 X 3.5 inches), plus at least one paint chip (or a portion thereof) must be included in the design, anywhere. ATCs should be composed of no fewer than 3 layers (or paper, fabric, tissue, what have you) including the paint chip. The number to be sent is 2 ATCs to 3 different partners. The examples I posted in this description are "Lesson," which uses the paint chip as an accent, and "PBR Calendar Girl," where the paint chip provides the background for the entire card. These are just two of the many ways these can be used, so let your imagination run wild!

This swap will be international, andfor those with a rating of 4.8 or above, no no-sends in the past 6 months, and participation in at least 5 previous ATC swaps.

Lowes has some paint samples that have a shimmer in metallics

Paint chips???? Where and what are they?

grandmaroro 09/13/2007 #

Paint chips? The are paint color samples. Every business that carries a paint line will offer "paint chips". Ace Hdwe, Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Sherwin Williams, etc. They are everywhere, once you realize what you are looking for. They are color on paper, not a chip of paint. Good luck - but be warned. They are addictive. lol Joan

Thank you for providing that explanation, Grandma Roro! :)

I work at a Lowes and I already have a box full of every paint chip they have. I've also collected Formica chips.

The Formica chips are for counter tops. They are a bit think for ATCs, but they are good for other altered art projects.

I have been using these paint chips (or samples)for a while. Some are big enough for an ATC and they are great if you are looking for just a bit of a colour and dont want to buy a whole sheet of cardstock. In Australia, try Bunnings or any big hardware store where they dont really care if you grab lots (the paint companies supply them anyway, not the store)

My cards went out in today's mail. All my backgrounds were paint chips from Lowe's. At first I just sat there and looked at them, didn't know what to do. Once the ideas started, I really had fun. Thanks, Lethalblonde, for the challenge. The sad part: I thought to scan them AFTER I had them sealed in mailers. Gluess I'll just have to make some more. Oh darn --- lol
