Description:

Upcycling is the art of recycling, taking a used material and elevating it into something new and awesome, better than it was before!

This swap is for an upcycled choker necklace! Materials could be beads, leather, fabric etc. Just make sure whatever materials you use are clean and comfortable enough to be worn on the skin of your neck. Make sure materials are durable and water resistant, washable or water proof. Try to make it pretty adjustable (maybe closing with a wide link chain, braid of yarn, ribbon or leather thong) since people come in all sizes. Aim for at least 50% upcycled/recycled materials, but of course the closer to 100% the better!

If you are an unusual size you should probably list that in the comments below, also if you are averse to any particular material (allergic to wool, or don't want leather or wool because you are vegan) that should be listed here too.

Don't know where to look? Try Goodwill, the Salvation Army, garage sales, estate sales, school and church rummage sales, your own closet and your own jewelry boxes.

I'm making the send date somewhat far from the start date just so you have a good long time to gather your recycled materials and consider your partners likes and dislikes thoroughly.

Does a month seem like a long enough time? Should it longer?

That's plenty of time. The challenge is in selecting the base of the choker. All that comes to mind at the moment is old headphone wires, plarn, or the string from my broken ukelele. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, lots of stuff is coming to mind. Hmmmm...watching for now.

You could use a strip of fabric or ribbon too and sew things onto it! Denim, corduroy, or wool from old clothes would work. I LOVE your ukelele wire idea, as Tim Gunn says, "Make it Work!"

I've been saving tea bag strings (and other thin twine) for years (since i am weird like that) and i was thinking about crocheting something out of that.
