This swap will be for an altered matchbox, of the size 2 inches x 1.5 inches (5cms x 3.5cms).

Decorate the outside with paint, stamps, embellishments, however you like. Remove the matches!!!

Then inside place at least 6 pieces of miniature artworks.

Take a look at these ones I have done in the past to give you an idea:

I couldn't get those links to work. Copying and pasting them to the address bar just brought me right back here. ??? Not sure what you mean by 6 pieces of miniature artworks. Sounds interesting, just not sure what I'm supposed to put inside. ??

That's odd - when I copied and pasted the links just now, they worked for me.

Inside, you make some little pieces of artwork - so you cut card the size of the inside of the box and either stamp it or embellish it (like making a mini ATC, or an inchie). If you only stamp the card and decorate it with inks, you can get a lot of pieces inside. If you are going to add embellishments, obviously this is going to take up room inside the box, so you should allow enough space depth-wise to accommodate 6 pieces minimum.

This is another example I just googled: http://iona-rose.blogspot.com/2011/01/altered-matchbox-swap.html

i'm having so much fun with this! i admit, this is my first matchbox, so aside from my previous research, you have some great examples in the links. :)

One question: I made the box out of cardstock, but is that too flimsy? Should i use something sturdier? thanks!!

Bunneh 03/20/2011 #

Depends on the thickness of the card - obviously it needs to be able to withstand postal carriers.

i think i'll try using my cereal box, like my best friend did.. also.. any suggestions for how to mail it? i'd hate to see it arrived squished. thanks!!

Cereal box should be fine - I have wrapped mine in bubble wrap as well as using a padded envelope and wrote "DO NOT CRUSH!" on the outside LOL!

Haha! I'm going to write that too! btw, i went to the dollar store near me and got a pack of 10 matchboxes (32 ct.) for $1!! Sweet!!
