Description:

One of the things I love most about collecting kawaii is that a lot of the English translations are riotously nonsensical! In this swap, we'll be sharing some crazy kawaii translations.

  • You will have one partner. This is an international swap.

You will send the following items:

  • 3 lettersets (2 papers and 1 envelope each, meaning 6 papers and 3 envelopes total)
  • 10 large memos (4x6 inches or similar, die cut is fine)
  • 10 small memos (you know... smaller than large... and die cut is also fine!)
  • At least ONE item has to have a wacky translation. If you can send more, that's extra fun!
  • Write a note to your partner that includes the swap name, your username, and tell which item is your chosen "wacky translation" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • You must send the items without folding them and in a way that they will not get bent during shipping. I highly suggest a cardboard mailer. Do NOT just put a small piece of cardboard in the envelope - the papers WILL fold around that when crammed into a P.O. box (ask me how I know, lol!).
  • ONLY kawaii brands (San-X, Kamio, Crux, Q-Lia, etc.) will be accepted for this swap: no Disney, diddl, Daiso, etc.
  • And please, if you plan to send out dollar store Sanrio or something you bought for $0.99 from KawaiiYa, only make it a couple of items. There's nothing more frustrating than sending a bunch of nice quality stationery and getting cheapo stuff in return!!! I will ban you from my swaps if you're doing that.
  • This is sender's choice, but it's always nice to look at your partner's profile for likes and dislikes! :)
  • No duplicates.
  • No recent 1s or 3s.

I can angel, but as crazy as my kawaii is, I hope I won't have to. ;D

Cute idea!

Sometimes we get immune to the nutty translations I think - I'm surprising myself by looking through my supplies! Some are just awkward (totally acceptable for this swap), while I have a letterset in mind that I specifically bought because I loved the incomprehensible English text! :D

Then there are typographical errors - all too common - and cultural differences. Sometimes I wonder if a local understanding defies translation.

Exactly! Like maybe there are some idiomatic phrases that don't translate well or something, you know, like "It's raining cats and dogs!" makes perfect sense to us... but if you were to translate that, we'd sound pretty insane. ;D

I just went through my stuff and I'm very excited to send, lol!
