Hello there, my name is Ashley.
I love both dogs and cats. I am an extrovert. I am half Hispanic and am getting more in touch with my culture. My main source of income is the odd baby/child/puppy/house sitting jobs, so shipping budget is very small right now.
With my free time I like to read, new books and rereading old favorites. Working on an idea I have with a friend for a novel. Create tiny galaxies with watercolor. Practicing and evolving my archery skill. Also hang out with friend--playing card games, getting to experience the video games I was denied during my childhood, geocaching, and search for new music to listen and dance around to. I really like to learn about new things. I love to stay intellectually stimulated. If you have any documentary recommendations, please share!
When inspirations strikes I love writing, baking and cooking, or any type of crafting/creative activity.
IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A SWAP FROM ME, PLEASE CONTACT ME FIRST.
When I was younger I would read 8 to 9 books a month. This is how I would escape the single child lifestyle after my much older siblings left. I am a firm believer in reading for yourself and reading to your children! My mother read to me till I was in 4th grade! It's great learning and bonding time! My spelling may not always be perfect, but I know words! I am happy to give recommendations! I read many books in my adolescence. They of course may be more on the side of what girls would read, unless your son/boy doesn't mind strong female main characters.
J. K. Rowling - Harry Potter series. And many fans different interpretations of it.
Alice Hoffman -Green Angel and Green Witch
Rick Riordan - Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olymus, The Kane Chronicles, and Magnus Chase series.
Malissa De La Cruz - Blue Bloods series
Jane Austin - Pride and Prejudice. Also Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Bram Stoker - Dracula
I love well made movies because they are great-Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, the MCU's Captain America movies, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Shawshank Redemption--but I also love some badly made movies because they are great. There is a special place in my heart for B rated horror films and cult classics--Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cursed, The Lost Boys, Trick 'r Treat, Stay Alive.
Some favorite Directors/Writers and their films:
Guillermo Del Torro: Pans Labyrinth, Hellboy, The Strain, Crimson Peak.
Mel Brooks - Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, History of the World part one, Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
Steven Spielberg - Jaws, Indiana Jones series, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Goonies, Hook, Jurassic Park, Catch Me If You Can, War Horse
Quentin Tarantino - Reservior Dogs, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Grindhouse, Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained.
I used to be one of those that always wanted to read the book before the movie came out...now it doesn't bother me as much, I actually prefer to read after I have seen the movie. There was that one book that I have fallen in love with, was so excited to see it become real, and was extremely disappointed in the writing--they had completely changed the ending for goodness sake--not to mention the lack of the characters multidimensional personalities.
Now, there are movies that I could watch everyday. I will never turn down the chance to watch. 13 Going On 30, The Singing Detective, The Road to El Dorado, Holes, Scooby Doo (2002) and basically every feature length film before this one. Beauty and the Beast (1992) and can't wait for the live action remake, Cinderella (2015), Odd Tomas, Chef, Stardust, The Help, White Christmas, Hocus Pocus, House on Haunted Hill, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Mummy & The Mummy Returns!
As you can see I like just about everything. Animated. Horror. Comedy. Historical Period Pieces.
I do love my Marvel movies. Bucky Barnes is a precious cinnamon roll that must be protected. Team Captain America! Sam Wilson must also be protected.
My taste are very eclectic, there is little that I don't like, which is just about everything on the Heavy Metal/Screamo side and most of today's Hip/Hop & American Rap.
It changes every few months or so as to what is my favorite at the time, but I am always down for some Classic Rock and Broadway show tunes. Oh also a playlist I made that can always get me dancing.
Currently I've been getting into Ariana Grande and Bollywood music.
One thing I can always be found listening to are old time horror radio shows. You know like Orson Welles' War of the Worlds. The famous show that caused nation wide mass panic and chaos because people believed that the world really was being attacked and invaded by malevolent aliens. I'm happy to give recommendations!
I used to watch so many shows. So many. There was once a time where I was watching two or three shows that were currently airing every day of the week. Ah, how I miss those procrastinating days, putting off those essay's you knew about weeks in advance.
The main reason I will stop watching is bad/lazy writing. Two big examples, Once Upon A Time and The Walking Dead. I loved these shows in the early days, but the current seasons have caused me to lose interest.
I don't like reality tv shows. Back in my early teenage years I couldn't get enough of the drama, but there is so much in my own life I don't wish to watch more. Television is an escape for me. Although I do love HGTV (except for Love It or List It), it is a guilty pleasure.
Shows that I absolutely love and why:
Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries (Netflix): A freethinking woman detective in 1920's Australia! I love my period pieces. And strong female characters. And everyone in this show.
Teen Wolf (MTV, Amazon Prime): I know, I know, my first thought was how it's MTV. You get hooked. Fast. Also the main character is a POC! You think it's just going to be a dumb show about teenage werewolves, but there are moments that hit you. Stiles is the best character.
The Fosters (Freeform, Netflix): Real Life. It portrays so many real life issues that families go through on a daily basis. Also they have actual transgendered actors on the show! Again you think it's gonna be dumb, but there have been many episodes that have had me going through a box of tissues!
iZombie (CW, Netflix): You end up falling in love with everyone. Except Major Lilywhite. I can't stand him. When you take on personality traits of the person whose brain you eat, you never know what is going to happen!
Doctor Who (BBC America, Amazon Prime): It has everything. Adventure. Science. Aliens. Magic. Comedy. Romance. Please DO NOT skip the 9th Doctor. Eccleston was brilliant and deserves to be recognized. I do love Tennant, I do, but my favorite is the current Doctor, Mr. Capaldi! My favorite companion is Donna. She was the friend that Tennant's Doctor needed. They were great together.
Others that I enjoy that are still going: Game of Thrones, Pitch, Lucifer, How To Get Away With Murder, Stranger Things, Supernatural, Orphan Black, and Bob's Burgers.
Other that I enjoy that have ended: How I Met Your Mother, True Blood, Veronica Mars, Downton Abbey, and Ugly Betty.
I love to work with my hands. I have been crafty all my life, starting with learning to braid which led to friendship bracelets and lanyards. I have worked with beading, crochet, loom knitting, cross stitching, machine sewing, hand sewing, soap making, candle making, ceramics, as well as many DIY's found on Pintrest and other sources around the internet.
My interest will change pretty often, one month I can't stop crocheting, the next I don't want to do anything but make beaded and friendship bracelets.
I currently love doing any type of paper crafting, scrapbooking, card making, pocket letters...I just love looking at pretty paper, and pretty things in general.
As for art, my father is a retired art teacher. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "It's violet not purple." I have tried just about every medium there is to create a picture, chalk & oil pastels, acrylic & oil paint, graphite and colored pencils, ink pens, markers, and crayons.
My favorite medium to work with is watercolors. I love the way you can layer the same color and the way colors blend together so effortlessly.
LIKES: The outdoors. I love going on adventures and exploring. geocaching, hiking, camping, anything having to do with National and State parks.
I love the color green! All things green. I also enjoy other earth-tone/nature and ocean colors.
Anything with Turtles, Wolves, Butterflies, Elephants, Tigers, Dachshunds and really any type of bird.
I love to bake and cook and welcome any recipe swap! My favorite is dark chocolate. I love spice. I love coffee, darker the better. I love tea, any type, but nothing is better during the summer than some iced green tea. Neither is better than the other. I enjoy them both.
Jewelry (especially handmade). Nail polish. Lipstick. Earthy, Spicy, and Floral scents.
If you want to draw, paint, doodle, color anything I would love it.
Just a few of the many different studies I pursue in my own time: History, Mythology, Geology, Philosophy, Photography, Literature, and Linguistics.
I am also learning about different religions, specifically Hinduism and Taoism
DISLIKES: I don't like the color yellow, the only time I can stand it is during the fall with all the changing of the leaves.
I absolutely hate 'white chocolate', it's not even chocolate. Artificial grape and cherry flavors.
I don't like sweet scents. Chocolate, sugar, vanilla
Would Prefer Not To Receive:
I don't wish to offend, so please read it all and don't just skim over it. Anything with Catholicism/Christianity religions. Now before you get any thoughts in your head let me say this: I love to learn NEW things. I know about these and the many branches under them. I don't know as much about Eastern religions or the different Pagan religions the ancients used to practice.
Stamps: both new and used. Coins. Buttons. Pins. Bottle Caps. Wine/Liquor labels. Any spare card or board game pieces.
Books. Calendars. Comics. GameCube games.
Rocks. Sand. Pressed Flora and Fauna. If you can identify where they are from and what kind/species it would be much appreciated.
Scraps of pretty paper and the leftover oddball embellishments.
Post-it notes. Sticky page flags. Shaped paperclips. Colorful/Unique business cards. Stationary. Blank notecards. Stickers. Notebooks.
Anything Dia De Los Muertos/Sugar Skulls, Doctor Who, Lilo & Stitch, MARVEL, Harry Potter (especially Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and/or Captain America, Rooster Teeth or Achivement Hunter.
