I think it was MOST impactful for me to realize that "forgiving" a person does not mean that I have to start being buddies with them..... If it's a person who has repeatedly hurt me, or proven that they are toxic, God does not want me to allow them to continue to "abuse" me.... Forgiveness is ME choosing to let go of the anger about it. They don't even have to be SORRY for me to forgive them. It's between me and the Lord. I don't want my bitterness to separate me from God. I had to ask him to help me to let go of it.... The person who hurt me the most still is not sorry for it. They still honestly believe they were in the right. But I let it go, and my life is more peaceful WITHOUT them. Turns out, the enemy was using that bitterness to take my peace....
