Hello! My name is Jennifer. I am female (with tomboyish interests), 28 years old, and living on my own. I am a video game programmer who is currently at a company that makes off road racing games. This is my first full time job as a salaried employee at a studio though I have had several internships, did a few months of contract work from home, and have done a lot of game development projects academically in both undergrad and grad school.
I have lived in at least six different states but until now all have been on the East Coast (which is where my parents still are). I also got to do a study abroad in Osaka Japan back in undergrad I've been in Arizona for a little over year but haven't gotten to explore that far. Even though I'm a programmer I like doing arts and crafts in my free time for fun. I know I'm not a fantastic artist but I enjoy it.
I have tried learning Japanese many times but have often ended up not getting as far as I want and then restarting from scratch feeling like I forgot too much. I am trying to at least learn some more kanji currently though. I don't think I can say very much at the moment but will know some basics. I also remember a little bit of Spanish from high school but also don't expect a lot as that was over 10 years ago. My Spanish is still probably better than my Japanese though.
Quick swap note: If you get charged postage due for something I send you please let me know and I can send you the postage via paypal or some other means (or I can mail you stamps or something if you have no better way.) No one has said it happened yet but just putting this here in case!
I still primarily like watching animated movies and shows. I enjoy both western cartoons and anime a lot. I am a Disney and Pixar fan. My favorite Studio Ghibli movie is Spirited Away. My favorite Disney movie is The Lion King and my favorite Pixar movie is Up. My favorite Dreamworks movie is either Shrek (unironically) or Kungfu Panda.
Outside of animated movies I sometimes enjoy Fantasy movies and Marvel movies. I like Doctor Strange a lot though didn't enjoy the movie as much as I hoped to. Also, while Spiderman isn't normally one of my favorite super heroes Enter The Spiderverse was extremely amazing and anyone who loves good animation and hasn't seen it really should.
I like doing pencil and pen sketching. I also like colloring with alcohol markers and acrylic paint markers. I enjoy water colors and have several pocket street sketching water color kits that I like to bring around with me. I also like paper craft a lot but mostly for making paper dolls (largely of animals or of characters that I like. I like using a lot of different types of patterned material for their clothing). I also like using washi tape either for my paper craft or for coloring in artwork with patterns.
Different interesting papers, washi, tape, flat stickers, ephemera, and nice cutouts could be very useful to me especially if you could imagine using it for the paper crafts I mentioned above.
In the past I have enjoyed polymer clay but haven't done it in a while. I've also enjoyed assembling and painting board game/role play miniatures but I would need a new collection of enamel paint to start that up again. My board game group somewhat fell apart due to some of the member running into a really difficult situation, so I haven't been doing board gaming in a long time. I used to play a lot of great strategy board games though.
My favorite video games are currently probably Monster Hunter and Okami. As far as genres my favorites are RPGs and Adventure games. I can enjoy puzzle games, rhythm games, turn based strategy games, and a wide variety of others though. I am a Nintendo fan and my favorite gaming platforms currently are Switch and PC. As mentioned above I also love tabletop games but haven't been playing them for a little while.
I haven't read much in a while but I enjoy fantasy novels, Comic books, and manga. I was a huge Harry Potter fan growing up and it still some what means a lot to me. As I said I enjoy Doctor Strange and I like older Dead Pool comics. I can sometimes enjoy sci-fi but tend to prefer fantasy a lot. I am normally not a big fan of most horror, but can enjoy cosmic horror, victorian horror, sci-fi with horror elements, and some types or psychological horror occasionally (I have a few anime/visual novels and such I enjoy in this category).
While not exactly books I do enjoy radio plays too. I'm a big fan of Welcome to Nightvale and Hello From the Magic Tavern.
I really love learning weird animal facts and appreciate the cool, weird, and atypical creatures that are out there. There's really no type of animal I don't love (though of course I don't want to be in a dangerous situation with any of them). Naming a favorite is hard but some of my favorites might be snakes, wolves, and pangolin. I also really like how varied insects can be, and have a wall in my apartment with a bunch of mechanical insect art. I feel personally connected to foxes and also to kitsune in Japanese mythology and sometimes draw myself as a four-tailed kitsune. I have a lot of fox plushies and fox items around my house. If you include all types of mythical animals dragons are also really important to me and may be my favorite creatures. I really like mythology and folk lore as a whole and enjoy tales about fantasy creatures and odd monsters. I often like drawing creatures over humans be them real, imaginary, or anthropomorphic.
