Description:

When I was starting out, I found a lot of neat swaps that I wanted to take part in, but didn't qualify because I was unrated. And when I had a few swaps under my belt, they weren't the right TYPE of swaps. To help remedy some of that, I'm setting up an beginner friendly art journal swap.

No art-journal experience? No problem. Decorate a minimum of 50 pages of a journal with your choice of themes...ideas...etc. Throwing two stickers on a page is NOT art - journaling. You can use stickers as part of your journal page, but not as the only decoration.

The journal can be composition (the marble ones), sketch books, homemade, etc, but no smaller in size than 5x7 inches (12.7x17.75cm). The paper on composition books can be glued together to make it sturdier or have gesso applied. Or both if you so choose.

We're keeping the entries PG-13, but because this isn't based on your partner's profile, you can even start now.

This is a long-term swap with the sign-up on January 31st and the final day to send out on March 1st. You'll have one partner. Because this will be time and labor intensive, I won't be able to angel.

Also, just so you don't miss it, this is an INTERNATIONAL swap. If you don't think you can make the postage to ship somewhere else in the world, don't join. Anyone who wishes to create a US only swap based on this one is more than welcome to.

If you really don't know where to start with Art Journaling, google it. Or message me and I'll be glad to help you out.

By composition journal do you mean a marble composition book?

Could it be handmade, or possibly a purchased spiral sketch book? I find it hard enough to write in bound books because they won't lie flat, much less try to draw or embellish in them ;)

Pyxidragon 10/29/2011 #

That was what I meant, however, I do see your point. Swap edited.

About the minimum size of the book: 5x7 cm or inch? Inches, I suppose, since you're American, but not my first idea, since I'm not ;)

great swap. I just did one and I´ve learning a lot and also surprised about the things my partner did ... it´s nice to experimente this way !!

Pyxidragon 10/30/2011 #

Point taken, Salome...an international swap does need specifications. Swap edited.

Anything else you folks see that doesn't quite make sense to an international swap, let me know, please. It's the first one I've tried hosting.

What do you mean by PG-13 ?

I've not come across that on a swap before.

Pyxidragon 11/14/2011 #

PG-13 is a rating I borrowed from the motion picture association where it is used to suggest that some material might not be appropriate for children under 13.

Basically, it's a request to keep cursing, nudity, and disturbing images to a minimum.

boatingbelle 11/15/2011 #

I wondered if that was it.

Thanks.

I am confused ... we decorate our book with 50 pages? Then what does the next person do with it?

Pyxidragon 12/ 1/2011 #

Hannahs, you decorate 50 pages in the journal and send it to one partner. I don't know that this will be a round-robin like the recipe swaps I'm doing. I thought I'd try this one first and see how it goes. :-)

burrumgirl 12/ 5/2011 #

Do we make the pages so that our partner can write in it, or do we write in it too.I mean do we make it a finished book or ready to be used like a diary? I suppose if the theme for a pair of pages needed words, the pages would not leave room for further writing by the partner. Sorry I am not up on Journals.

Pyxidragon 12/ 7/2011 #

It's okay, burrum. The idea is for this to be a finished book. Great question.

mlookyloo1 12/22/2011 #

I have got about 20 pages this is lots of fun

duckduckgoose 12/26/2011 #

This is totally awesome. It's going to be a blast making such a big one!

Pyxidragon 12/26/2011 #

I'm having a lot of fun working on mine between other journals. Glad to hear some of you are doing the same.

In the meanwhile, any questions, comments, other items I can help you with? Leave a message here (I try to check daily) or PM me.

Gofeen 12/27/2011 #

50 pages back and front or 50 single pages, please?

Pyxidragon 12/29/2011 #

50 single pages is the minimum, but you're free to do more if you wish!

Gofeen 01/ 3/2012 #

Thanks!

papermoon 02/ 2/2012 #

For those of you unsure where to start, I've been using the web for a lot of inspiration. You might find these useful----

http://daisyyellow.squarespace.com/abstract/art-journaling-101.html http://www.artistsjournals.com/instruction.htm

Likewise, you could find 50 prompts and write about/illustrate each one. :)

Pyxidragon 02/16/2012 #

Ack! This is what I get for browsing when I'm half asleep. Sorry to my partner, this isn't done yet!

sleeveless 02/23/2012 #

So, the 50 pages are counted like those of a book. Therefore page 1 and 2 equal one sheet or leaf of paper. This means that 25 "decorated pages" are needed in fulfill the requirements of this swap. Please correct where needed. Thanks you!

Pyxidragon 03/ 1/2012 #

Yes.

duckduckgoose 03/15/2012 #

This swap has been edited and I'm pretty peeved here because what I sent out was a lot different than what I've received due to that.

Pyxidragon 03/15/2012 #

Well, I'm sorry to hear that, duckduck. Please see your PMs.

Please be advised that I won't be creating a second part to this swap. I've had too many people not sending, complaining, and causing enough stress over it that I don't care to recreate the experience.
