Description:

This swap is to help us use the blank storebought and handmade Smashbooks that we have accumulated. I know that many of the Smashbook swaps require you to create a layout and then send it to your partner, but I get a little possesive of my own personal work and would like to hang on to it. I am one of those people who think my future grandchildren will one day stumble upon my journals (scrapbooks and Smashbooks) and be be able to better know what kind of person I was by reading them.

Here's the The Scoop...........

*Each round has THREE topics (see BELOW), BUT YOU ONLY CHOOSE TWO FOR YOUR BOOK to interpret as you wish- with art, photos, journaling, or smash in some ephemera or other scraps to tell your story. You will create the TWO layouts in any Smashbook you wish. For those of us who already did Rounds 1-3 just continue in the same book.

*You may get to work immediately on your pages. At least ONE decorated/embellished page per topic is required... though more is fine.

After partners are assigned: You will photograph your 2 layouts and send them in an email as an attachment to your 4 partners.

The Nitty Gritty: Your partners will rate you a 5 for sending it and it would be great if they could comment on what they thought about your layouts/interpretations of the theme. As long as you did something in your book you should get a 5. Hearts may be given as you see fit. All participants much be rated at least a 4.9. No recent 1's or 3's. Please folks, let's be responsible and carry through with what we commit to do. This swap is a Type 3 because there is work involved EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE NOT MAILING YOUR SMASHBOOK TO YOUR PARTNER!!!!!

The ULTIMATE goal is to have a beautiful completed full fat Smashbook by this Spring! Are you ready for the fun? Then sign up and join us!

Round 4

Topic 1:

What I Do In My Spare Time

(topic idea from Rhonda Helm- @bluecrayons

Topic 2:

Currently or At the Moment.....

(topic idea from Susan Marr- @smmarrty This topic she had me pull from one of her Pinterest boards. It's a really cool page where you share what you are currently wearing, drinking, thinking, eating, wanting, feeling, the weather etc... the image used for this swap is the Pinterest photo from Susan's board) If you were to do this page you can make it all yours and make it as different or similiar to the sample as you wish!!!

Topic 3:

My Guilty Pleasure

NOW THE TOUGH PART... WHICH 2 OF THOSE 3 TOPICS DO YOU CHOOSE?

@beadqueene created a Flickr group for us to share our Smashbook pages with everyone. The link is: http://www.flickr.com/groups/2157168@N22/

Hey guys!!! I really want to join this swap, but I need to get a smash book first.......where is the best place to get one and what's a good kind? Size? I am looking on Amazon and there are quite a few to choose from. What are some essential smash book essentials to have/purchase? Thanks guys!! :)

I would say for smash books you can use any book so long as it has pages that are firm enough to be glued on. As for essentials - just a glue stick. That's the whole point - smash books are for junking rather than using traditional scrapbook photo albums.

@Joshcoop I am using the actual K and Company red Smashbook that I picked up at Michael's with my 40% off coupon. I also have quite a few handmade smashbooks that I have received in swaps that would have worked out well too!!! It's all a matter of preference. I can't handle the blank white page staring back at me- which is why I had to use a Smashbook rather than a plain white book. It's all a matter of preference. We are working on books about ourselves and it's getting exciting as our books start to bulk up! If you join you will see that EVERYONE has a style all their own! Some of us use more words, some use a lot of photos, some use lots of ephemera and Scrapbook supplies... it's all up to you! Go ahead and join us. There is no wrong way to make your pages. Just do 2 themes with at least a page for each. If you would like to see some pages you can check the flickr group page http://www.flickr.com/groups/2157168@N22/

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon.....a K&Company smash book kit (with stickers, pockets, the book, tabs, etc...), some awesome pens, some stamps and ink pad, smash tape.......It all should be here on Monday!! :) I want to eventually make my own books, but I did not want to be too ambitious right off the bat, so I think I am good with the pre-made book for now. I looked through the photos on Flickr and you guys have some great stuff on there!! I joined and these will be the first pages I make :) Super excited! Do you have links to rounds 1-3, so I can do those as well to be up to date?

Thank you and I cannot wait to get feedback from you guys :)

THREE CHEERS FOR SWAP-BOT!

My stuff will be here today!!! I have tons of stuff to smash that I have gathered over the past few weeks and I cannot wait to actually start creating!!!

SillyPie 01/10/2013 #

I would like to join but I've never made a smash book and have some questions

Do you have to make every page a theme? Can't you just kind of smash what your day has been about?

I like photos and I like collecting things throughout my day. Receipts, lunch tickets, parking passes, ect. Would that be ok?

soyprincesa2 01/10/2013 #

@SillyPie This swap is for those of us working on a book that is all about us personally and the best part of it is that we get to motivate one another and then hold on to it (rather than sending it off to our partner). The great thing about Smashbooks is that there are hundreds.. maybe thousands of ways to use it. It can be theme specific or general. I have been making my Smashbooks theme specific. I currently have some in progress. The Themes I am working on are: quotes/thoughts, Our 2013 Year in Review, My idea book (Pinterest the old fashioned way) and also this swap's book. I am thinking of starting one for my pen pal letters too. Yes, you could do your Smashbook like a journal and smash your day or your week.

@SillyPie ... We would love to have you join our swap. For this swap- we have themes that you work on and put into your book. If you were to join this swap you would work on the same themes that we are Smashing... and then we email photos to our partners. You can check out the flickr group and see photos from our swap. Off and on there are other types of Smashbook themed swaps... though I think all of them you actually send what you create to your partner. I personally prefer holding onto what I make. I hope to start another Smashbook swap in early Summer about Summer and Summer Memories.... information to come in the next few months.

@soyprincesa2 Thank you! I knew about the themes for this particular one, but I meant in general, like if I were to do pages between these swap pages. I can just do whatever I want?

I don't want to send away anything I make which is why this group caught my attention :)

I'll definitely join in for this ! :D

soyprincesa2 01/11/2013 #

@SillyPie you can do whatever you want between pages. It's your book. Glad you joined us!
