Coin Swap - Int'l circulated coins #4
Swap Coordinator:JayBab (contact)
Swap categories: Miscellaneous
Number of people in swap:12
Location:International
Type:Type 2: Flat mail
Last day to signup/drop:April 30, 2013
Date items must be sent by:May 11, 2013
Number of swap partners:4
Description:

This swap will be limited to TWO people from each COUNTRY. This will prevent the possibility of getting more than one swap partner from your own country, but still allow a few more people to participate. I hope that we will get people joining from many countries!

You will send a minimum of 5 coins from your country to your swap partner. Bills/paper money also acceptable if the denomination makes it feasible for you. Expectations are that circulation coins will be swapped, and not mint, or purchased collector items. This means that coins being received are expected to be used, nicked 'n scratched.

If you do get paired with someone from your own country, try for oddities if possible. For example, the US and Canada both have limited themed coins, and state or province coins, respectively. If you have a duplicate coin from another country, that would also be acceptable to send to a same-country partner if they agree.

Please ship coins that are 'fixed'/taped in place, and not loose inside the envelope. Good practice is to declare contents as "used numismatic collectibles w/low value" or "gift-collectibles". Your country of origin may have specifics you may need to consider before sending.

No swappers with unexplained 1's and 3's, and I will be reviewing all profiles and reserve the right to drop anyone that I feel is suspicious or does not meet the requirements. Newbies with well filled out profiles are welcome.

4 partners each, please declare your country of origin after singing-up. i would encourage contacting your swap-partner to 'customize' your swap for hearts. Happy Swapping!

Do countries generally have more than 4 coins? We only have 4, but I don't mind tossing in a $1 bill. Bahamas.

SusieO 04/ 4/2013 #

Blimey, LovelyLici, we have 8 here in England with a 9th that's a commemorative coin but is still legal tender (£5 coin).

LovelyLici 04/ 5/2013 #

We just have 1, 5, 10, and 25 cent pieces in circulation. The 15 cent coin is no more. I'll have to see if I can find one.

User @katheriin has joined this swap and has two 1 ratings that could be fixed. Please consider dropping her to protect your other swappers. I also recommend putting a rating requirement on any swaps you host to make it easier. =) Good luck!

hi everyone! I just sent your coins yesterday. But I am a bit nervous because I also sent a bunch of coins to someone last week, and when the envelope arrived the coins were not there! :( I hope that this does not happen to my swap partners. Probably dishonest people working in the Philippine post office got the coins :(

violinpopstar 05/ 7/2013 #

^If this DOES happen, I'll send something else to my swap partners to make up.

kitterslady18 05/ 8/2013 #

So my post office say they can't send coins to Singapore and Thailand!! They say it's illegal to send money from here to there. I'll try to tape it inside card stock so you can't feel them but if the post office in Thailand and Singapore confiscate them I'd feel awful. What should I do?

JayBab 05/11/2013 #

violin & kitterslady, this is why coins should be secured inside envelope, and not lose. I had an assigned partner myself in Thailand, but I did not declare the contents. when they asked at the post office what was shipped, i just said photos. they were ok with that answer.

violinpopstar 05/13/2013 #

Yay! kitterslady18 got my coins already. I hope the rest will arrive safely at their destinations. If ever something wrong happens I will definitely resend.

It so happens that last time, I sent the coins to India. I have nothing against India but I've heard that the post office people there are really corrupt and they open the parcels to check for money/coins. Then they get the money inside, so when it got to the person, the coins weren't there and he got really angry with me :/ Traumatic experience. Hoping that this does not happen to me again.

violinpopstar 05/13/2013 #

@kitterslady Oh my, I'm nervous as well, they might find out about the coins I sent to Thailand & Singapore :/

kitterslady18 05/13/2013 #

@JayBab I had them secured to the letter I included but and I didn't have it written but she felt the envelope and really pushed and could feel them so she refused them :( So I bought a stiff card and sent them that way, second time was a charm.
