I've seen a lot of newbies trying to join my swaps who are just under the minimum requirement for rated Type 3 swaps. I figured I'd try to help them out and host a newbie friendly Type 3 swap series so they can continue to build up those ratings. Of course, if you're already an established swapper, you can join too.

To make this easy, all items will be sender's choice (which includes handmade items):

1 factory sealed teabag

1 bookmark

1 sticker sheet

10 post-its (small sticky note pages)

1 touristy postcard (blank)

1 non-touristy postcard (blank)

Include a note with your username and the swap name. Try to package all of your items so that they won't increase the chances of the envelope ripping in transit. Extras are an option but are not required. Send on time, rate quickly and kindly. I will NOT be banning anyone but I will NOT be angeling this swap, either. Let's build trust in one another, realize that sometimes we'll have to resend when the post office sends things astray, and have fun! Your ratings depend on it!

Tips for newbies: Join the Newbie Helpers group! All types of swaps are open to newbies there to help build ratings, plus the forums are a great place to ask questions and learn the ropes. Also, have a descriptive profile that's fun to read. Not all swaps are sender's choice, so give your partner something that makes them feel like they have a good grasp of who you are. A good rule of thumb is that you have to scroll down to read the whole thing. But don't make it a giant laundry list of dislikes! It's ok to include your allergies and list some items that you really don't have a use for, but when your whole profile is just things you don't like or want, it's kind of a downer. On the flip side, don't be too specific! It's fine to collect vintage postcards, but if you only collect the one from 1922, you're going to put some very difficult restrictions on your partners. Be open to new things and remember you can always give unwanted things away in future swaps!

"I will NOT be banning anyone but I will NOT be angeling this swap, either." Sounds like a flakers dream.

It's all about trust and personal responsibility. Some swaps come with a higher risk than others. If anyone is uncomfortable with the level of uncertainty that comes with this kind of swap and partner assignment, perhaps it is not the swap for them.

@mandigutterrose - I agree with you. Just because someone is new, or doesn't have many ratings doesn't automatically make them a poor swapper or a flaker. I've gotten really awful swaps, had terrible problems with swaps from well established, 5.0 rated swappers. Then gotten wonderful, well thought out swaps from unrated newbies. They have to have the chance to start somewhere. :) One reason to like the Newbie Helpers group. :) This site is great, I really enjoy swapping and meeting people through swap-bot, but it can be so very confusing when you are first starting out! I think established swappers need to help out those just starting, give them a chance and feedback to help them understand how it all works rather than bashing and hating on them for a mistake. :)

I agree that the established swappers should help the newbies. But I think it would be a good idea to check the participants anyway. Swapper with recently received Ones should try to fix those problems before they join new swaps and might cause problems there as well. And this is meant for well established swappers as well as for the new ones.
