Description:

Okay here we go..this is my first swap to coordinate. It is a combination of a few things I've seen here.

Remember the back page of National Geographic World magazine used to have extreme close-ups and you had to figure out what they were?

You will have 3 partners and you will send each partner 3 ATC sized close-up photos. You can get 2 ATC's out of a single 4x6 photo if you try.

These should be unadultered high-quality photos cut into the 2 1/2" by 3 1/2" ATC size.

Since you will make 9 and get 9 in return it will fill a standard trading card page.

Please sign the backs and write what the object is. I like to use labels on photos so it doesn't wreck the picture

It is also fun to post pictures here..I'd love to see them!

The swap is international-shipping shouldn't be an issue.

*****Red Tape***** I am very serious about ratings! In order to participate you must have at least a 4.7 rating. If you have a no send, please send me an email explanation. Newbies are welcome, but please email me to let me know you are serious and fill out your profile. It's not fair to do the work and not get anything in return.

Most of all...Have Fun!

point of clarification. The picture you used, is that close enough or must we go closer?

AngelFaeryKathleen 03/10/2007 #

Hi Farstar, I do love these photo swaps so I am in for this one. I was sorry when the other extreme close up swap was removed so thank you for putting one up.

FarStarr 03/10/2007 #

Hi Deborah, The picture above is the entire 4x6 photo that I will cut down to ATC size (2 1/2 by 3 1/2"). Yup it's close enough. I found that ones that didn't seem real close were great when the size was cut down. My camera, fantastic as it is, only goes so close.

Kathleen, I was bummed the other one disappeared too! Thanks for joining!

SharonP 03/11/2007 #

Fun swap, Mandy, thanks for telling me about it!

When I make an ATC out of a photo, I like to mount it (using a glue stick) onto a piece of cardstock for extra sturdiness, and if you trim the photo to be slightly smaller than ATC size, the cardstock makes a nice little border, especially if you use black or some other dark color that goes with your photo. Then you either write on the back with a gel pen or use a sticker. I find most photo paper to be a little lighter weight than I like for ATCs.

I do appreciate a photo ATC swap that acknowledges photography as an art form in itself. Photos don't need "embellishment" to be cool! (I do also like altered photos, so I don't mean to disparage that art form!)

I too was so very happy to see this swap since the other close-up one vanished. I may be new but I promise to play nice. Feel free to check out my completed profile.

FarStarr 03/14/2007 #

Thanks for coming to play, PicSuz..

FarStarr 03/14/2007 #

And of course...thanks for coming to play to everyone else!

mouseybrat 03/14/2007 #

mandy, i can't wait to do this... i just got a new digi camera and have been playing with it..... thanks for this fun swap

jewels1 03/19/2007 #

This was so fun, I spent all afternoon on these when I should have been doing other things, they are all done! I can't wait to send them out!

KellyR 03/21/2007 #

Hello! I am a newbie, but I do a ton of swaps through the Yahoo group artisttradingcards. My cards are already made, so you don't need to worry about me flaking! Looking forward to seeing what comes my way. Thanks!

FarStarr 03/22/2007 #

I've been done, but I keep taking more! I probably looked like a fool under the bridge at the beach with my camera up to a post taking close-ups of barnacles, but it HAD to be done.

sewcool72 03/24/2007 #

I have finished mine. I only wish there were more things outside to take shots of. We are still brown and dreary. No pretty flowers yet! Anyway I had to think of things that I normally wouldn't have. But like FarStarr I am still shooting away!

SharonP 03/24/2007 #

It's pretty drab around here still too, but yesterday I was looking for things worth photographing and found a patch of pretty green moss, and a funny little spiral orange thingy -- a bit of litter! -- laying on path of dirt and pebbles. It actually looked kind of cool. I also plan to get some shots of the bark of trees, sometimes it is quite ornamental.

PaisleyBabe 03/26/2007 #

Oh! I love this idea! I take a lot of my photos using Macro. It's SO much fun! I can't wait to start snapping away! I might even use some that I already have! Yay! If you would like to see a small portion of my photographs you can visit my page on myspace. There's a link for it in my profile or you can go to http://www.myspace.com/whimsygirl

FarStarr 03/26/2007 #

I'm so excited that everyone is having a good time!

user6118 03/28/2007 #

Paisley Babe ~ Just saw your myspace site. What kind of camera do you use. I am looking for an impressive digital camera. Any suggestions? THANKS!

FarStarr 03/28/2007 #

You didn't ask, but I'll tell ya anyway....My wonderful husband bought me the Canon Digital Rebel Xti for Christmas. It takes fabulous pictures, but it is kinda heavy to carry around. It's reeeeaaalllly heavy with the telephoto lens that I HAD to have, but again, the pictures are great! He can carry it on vacation, right?

FarStarr 03/30/2007 #

Melanie, I peeked at your Flickr page..Love the close-ups! It must be warm down under while it's still brown here. Little green things are starting to poke up though...spring is coming!

PaisleyBabe 03/31/2007 #

Jodi Renshaw - Over the past few years I have used several different digital cameras.

For a long time I used the HP Photosmart 945 (no longer in production) which I really loved. It took awesome photos! Unfortunately it broke last spring and Hewlett Packard replaced it with the HP Photosmart R817. This is a great camera for doing macro shots with, other than that, the photos are just okay.

Last fall I bought the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H5 which I really love! It's an awesome camera. There are times however that I feel that the HP 945 did better on some things. Overall though, I am really pleased with this camera.

I would make sure that whatever camera you get it has at least 6 to 7 megapixels and an optical zoom of at least 8 to 10. It just depends on what you are using it for and what you prefer. Make sure that you do research and shop around before buying, it pays off in the end.

I hope that this helps! - Kelly

Partners are assigned! Have fun!

user6118 04/ 1/2007 #

Kelly & FarStarr,

Thanks so much for the camera advice. VERY helpful! I will let you know what I decide :)

~ Jodi

mouseybrat 04/ 2/2007 #

camera advice... i just got a new olympus sp-510 uz. i love it... it is 7mp... my previous digital camera was a fuji finepix and only 2mp. i would say buy the most mp's you can afford. the more mp the better quality your photos. but do shop around for sale prices.....

jewels1 04/ 2/2007 #

FarStarr, My husband bought me the Canon Rebel XTi for Christmas too! I have had more fun, people must think I'm nuts, I carry it around with me everywhere, just in case! This was a great swap, I had so much fun! I mailed mine out this morning to 'I Love MVY', 'Kelly R', and 'Liz', so be watching for them!

jewels1 04/ 2/2007 #

I was going to post pictures in the gallery, but I think I'll wait until after my partners receive them so I don't spoil the surprise.

FarStarr 04/ 2/2007 #

Awwwww...ok, I'm all for surprises. But it would be neat if we posted pictures when we receive them...

FridaKahlo 04/ 2/2007 #

I am drooling over these cameras, literally!! I so want the Canon rebel, have for two years now, ever since i saw one. But i had just gotten the Fuji finepix and couldn't afford a new camera. The rebels have dropped in price now so i'm hoping maybe my husband will let me have our tax rebate and get one. one can dream.
Dianne

Kat 04/ 2/2007 #

My ATCs went into the mail today. Hope they aren't too obscure.

wiccked 04/ 5/2007 #

thanks, FarStarr :)

When I'm looking for a new camera macro is the most important feature, even before mp and zoom. My Canon powershot S3 IS is awesome - it's 6mp, 12x optical zoom, and focuses right down to 0cm. Really. It will focus on a waterdrop on the lens!

My cards went out a couple of days or so ago :) I'd love to know when people receive them :)

SharonP 04/ 5/2007 #

I received ATCs today from Karis (sparklebluefaery?) and from beckra. Great photos! Beckra, I am very impressed by the bees in the hive, what a cool photo, and the other ones are wonderful studies in pattern and light. Karis, your flower photos are beautiful (and soothing here in Minnesota, where we just got an April snowfall!) and the detail on the Eiffel tower is great.

AngelFaeryKathleen 04/ 6/2007 #

Hi Jodi,Sewcool and FarStarr, your ATC's are winging their way to you from New Zealnd, but with the great Easter shut down thay may in fact still be sitting in the post box!

FarStarr 04/ 9/2007 #

A few questions for you guys..

Do you like the ATC size or would you prefer whole 4x6's?

I have a few more Macro and close-up ideas..colors..letters from signs..

If you have any input let me know. I'm going to start a couple more swaps soon. This was so much fun!

FarStarr 04/ 9/2007 #

I just recd ATC's from sewcool72. My favorite is the men's ties. I want to feeeel the fabric (I have a texture thing). And of course, love the Buns. Thank you!

sewcool72 04/ 9/2007 #

I think I like the ATC size. We can put them in our trading card pages. This is really fun. It will be good to have one in warmer weather.

Yay! My prints finally came yesterday and so my ATCs went out in the mail today at last!(I e-mailed my partners already.)
