Description:

This is an ELECTRONIC and INTERNATIONAL and YEAR-LONG Swap.

Global warming is one of the most serious challenges facing us today and many of us are overwhelmed by the enormity of the issues. Some don’t understand at all. However, its clear that most of us want to do something but we just don’t know where to start.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Meade

Starting January 1, 2009 and each subsequent month of the year, you will EMAIL ME and I will in turn share with everyone, an idea about going green. Either something you do, a website you love, information on an organization you support, etc.

So twelve (12) emails in all. I'll send reminders, I promise!!!!

RULES (even though I hate them) Rating of 4.5 or better, with NO no sends in the past six months. Go ahead and message me if you’ve been rated unfairly at any point or have a good reason for your lower rating or the no sends, and we’ll talk. I’m certainly open to listening - as I understand LIFE HAPPENS!

Newbies allowed, but with filled out profiles please by the time you are signing up.

Communication is key. If you’re going to be late with the swap, let your partner know. If your partner tells you he/she is going to be late, and keeps up the communication, give him/her a break. Sometimes things come up that just can’t be helped. Life happens!

I reserve the right to ban anyone that I think might be a problem. This means people that I've noticed have a history of rating unfairly, nastiness, etc. I believe in playing nice & fairly.

ENJOY, Have FUN - after-all, this is a HOBBY . . hobbies are supposed to bring you joy & happiness!!!!!!!!

This sounds good but I think I might forget or lose track of time, and a year long swap is hard. Some people might not even be around here that long. EMail addresses change for a lot of people too. Wonder if twelve ideas in January would be rude? :)

AnitraF 11/17/2008 #

Well, it might be difficult to come up with twelve ideas all at once. As situations change, you might find other things to do that you will want to share.

Perhaps you can set up a certain date on which to do it? For example - I have a monthly housekeeping chore which I do on or around the first of each month, so I don't forget when it was last done. And keep your partner in your address book, so you can take them with you when you change email addresses.

Or set up a free email account such as Hotmail or Gmail especially for the swaps .....

At first I also thought this was toooooo long - but the more I thought about I realised that if being green is a part of life just like swapping - then I can do this. make it a good habit.

LadyT 11/24/2008 #

I agree with Simone - going green IS a way of life.

As the coordinator, I will send reminders & updates, etc. I'm going to change it to one swap partner and in actuality, you will only email me and I will email to everyone - so everyone in the swap gets to see everyone's ideas and suggestions.

I'm not going anywhere and I have access to people's personal emails . . so this should help eleviate some people's concerns.

In order to get a heart, you can send your partner something (throughout the year) that has to do with going green, helps them go green or IS green!!!!

Do we email you through the Swap-bot service or do we send the email direct? And how do we receive our emails from you?

AnitraF 01/ 2/2009 #

I only send my messages once. Why do they show up twice? (This happens every time I use Swap-bot's comment service.)

AnitraF 01/ 2/2009 #

Oh - another question. Do we click on Item Sent every month, or just in December?

My May post - Useful resources

I hope there hasn't been technical problems with the comments above - a great many have disappeared! :-(

LadyT 06/15/2009 #

nifwlseirff: I am not sure what youa re referring to . . .NO messagses have been deleted by me and I am the only one who can do it for this swap. IF I deleted a comment, it more than likely had nothing to do with the general membership or was no longer timely and was of no real use.

I do have to admit that I don't get on much these days, so perhaps SWAP-BOT may have done something, however, I doubt that and if so, WHY?

You seem to be quite critical (judgemental) of me and/or this swap the last few months and again, I'm not quite sure why? This is supossed to be fun and a hobby. That is how I am approaching it and will continue to do so and attempt to leave the negativity out of it.

My June post - Chronic illness while going green

LadyT: I'm really sorry - I did not mean to imply that you had deleted anything from the swap discussion comments - I'm very sorry you understood it that way! I only noted that a bunch of useful comments, resources, etc. from other members had gone missing from the discussion, and I don't have the comments archived :-(

It's a shame that technical problems interfere with a swap, but as everyone knows, it happens.

I absolutely agree that swap-bot (and this particular swap) is a great, constructive and fun hobby! I think it is fantastic that everyone is putting in so much thought into their posts/articles, I love to see where these are published online for future reference, and I look forward each month to exploring the links to extra resources being included in the PDF that you circulate. :-) I never intended to be critical - I'm so very sorry that you have misunderstood me that way!
