Description:

How many of you writers out there feel like lately you’re living the cliché of not being able to “write your way out of a paper bag?” I know I am! The goal of this swap is to encourage your partner with a “bag of tricks” to help blast through writer’s block, take the next step in getting published, or just stay motivated!

In that spirit, you will be sending your partner any type of paper bag (a lunch sack, grocery bag, gift bag, or whatever you can find!), filled with AT LEAST the following three items (of course you can include more if you so desire):

  1. At least one page, typed or handwritten, of writing inspiration—an encouraging letter, or a list of creative writing prompts, quotes from famous writers, tips on landing an agent… whatever you think might inspire your partner!

  2. A “found object”—something not purchased, but discovered either around your house or in your daily travels (work, library, coffee house, etc.)—to inspire writing. This can be a postcard or intriguing photo to write about, a stranger’s shopping list or other note, a random object just begging to have a story written about it … anything to spark ideas and get the words flowing!

  3. A purchased, re-gifted, or handcrafted item to encourage your partner’s creativity. This can be a fun pen or paper, a small journal, a blank CD to save work on, (why not decorate the case??), a mix CD of music that inspires your own writing, or maybe a matchbox/matchbook shrine to a favorite author, or the craft of writing in general? (Please note below if you’re strictly a journaler/hand-writer, and don’t have use for blank CDs or similar media items.)

If the bag isn’t already decorated, add a little flair (at the very least, a few stickers!) Check profiles for ideas. If your bag is sturdy enough, you can use it as the outside packaging, but if it’s something like a lunch sack, of course you’ll want to enclose it in a sturdier envelope or box. Be creative, and have fun!

If you want to, you can post to the comments section below or include something in your profile regarding any specific projects you’re currently working on, or the type of writing you normally do (a novel, poetry, short stories, journaling) so your partner can really customize your package to your interests.

Newbies welcome with fully filled-out profile listing an obvious interest in writing (I will check profiles and ban anyone fishy). No unexplained ones or threes (PM me to explain unfair ratings BEFORE signing up). I can angel if necessary, but shouldn’t have to. I’m making this one US/Canada only, but feel free to start an international version if you like!

Happy bagging! And happy writing! :)

I love to write especially when it comes to using my imagination vividly. I can't wait to get started.

A couple more days to sign up... hope you can all join! And just a reminder... if you haven't done so already, please add a few lines to your profile or this discussion describing what kind of writing you do.

Oh... I guess I should abide by my own rules... :) Fiction is my first love! I have finished a sort of "dark chick-lit" novel, queried it to several agents, and one asked to see the first three chapters, but that was over three months ago and I haven't heard anything back... we'll see what happens. In the meantime, I'm attempting to write a young adult novel that is sort of a satire of the whole Twilight craze... not really bashing the book itself, but examining the idea of a teenage girl devoting her whole life to an obsessive, domineering guy... I'm having fun with it, but I'm not really sure if it's something "marketable" or not.

Anyway... Looking forward to this swap! :)

Fiction is definitely my favorite, too. Writing is more of a side hobby for me, but I love anything creative or philisophical. I'm sure that if you put thought into what you send me, I'll love it!

I write contemporary romance and paranormal or futuristics. I've been in a long dry spell. I'd love anything encouraging!
