Description:

This is the first swap I've coordinated, so if you need clarification on something, feel free to comment and I'll try to clear it up. I didn't see any current magic yarn ball swaps running, and I've never participated in one on Swap-Bot, so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to create my own.

Magic Yarn Balls are made by wrapping small items up in a ball of yarn. As you craft with the ball of yarn that you receive, little surprises will be revealed one by one. Or, if you're super anxious to see what's inside, you can just unravel the whole ball to reveal all your goodies at once.

This swap will be based around your partner's profile.

  • If they have a favorite color listed in their profile, you should use that color yarn as the basis for your yarn ball, and all of the treasures inside should be things from their profile or things you think they would like based on their profile.

  • Each ball should be made with a 100g/3.5oz skein of yarn and contain at least 8 items.

  • Some ideas for things to include to get you started: ribbons, beads, buttons, a magnet, earrings, a necklace, tea bags, stickers, embroidery floss, barrettes, charms, small rubber stamps, lip balm, etc.

Here's a link to a whipup.net article that shows how to make them: http://whipup.net/2006/04/25/kids-yarn-project-the-magic-wool-ball/

I'd like to keep this to people with a 4.5 rating or higher. Also, no recent 1's, 3's or no-sends. I'd also like everyone to be active on the site within a week prior to the sign up deadline. Please make sure you have some ideas in your profile for you partner to use as a guideline for your surprises.

You will have two weeks to put your yarn ball together and get it in the mail. If those who sign up don't think this is enough time, I can extend the mailing deadline for another week.

Lavender, I really don't think you'll disappoint your swap partner! Just be inspired by their profile and if you don't think they have enough information listed, you can always send them a message asking for a few more ideas. I hope you'll reconsider trying it out, it'll be fun!

I love Magic Yarn Balls!!! Lavender, these are so much fun, I hope you try it!

Whoever gets me...I don't have any allergies, and can always use more acrylic yarn. Right now I need dark red. And I'd love some flavored lip balm and fruit tea bags :) Also, I make lots of granny squares, so you could even put small balls of scrap acrylic yarn in my Magic Yarn Ball. How easy is that???

I just got finished making my first Magic Yarn Ball which I will be placing in the mail tomorrow to my swap partner. I have never done this before but it was so much FUN!!!

I love my completed yarn bal! !!. It is big and kind of pretty as it has shiny stuff poking through and there is something in the middle that kind of rattles!!!

I hope we do this again!!!
