Description:

There is a time when we get so desensitized to our surroundings and need to look to afar for inspiration. Well, if you can't travel, we'll bring the inspiration to you.

You will be assigned one partner. You will email your partner:

  1. a digital photo...any photo taken by you. It can be of people, objects, surfaces, etc. Please do not provide a title or description with the photo. Please ensure that the file names are not descriptive either! It will be up to your partner to create the context.

  2. when you receive a photo, you have six weeks to build a poem, song, scene, short story or prose (anything!) around it. You will then email your work back to photo sender. There are no page/line limits because many might find them a hindrance to creativity. Just make sure to send your writing out within six weeks!

This will help challenge us into thinking creatively and offer a peek into how other people may see images we send them. Have fun!

I gather this is done entirly by email?

flutterby 06/28/2007 #

This is an awesome idea :)

lolalita 06/28/2007 #

I think it would be easier for participants, but if you'd rather mail, feel free to do so.

AngelFaeryKathleen 07/ 9/2007 #

I have sent my photo to Angelbaby :-)))

lolalita 07/ 9/2007 #

By the way, the send-by date is for the writing. Sorry about the confusion.

flutterby 07/ 9/2007 #

Ok, sent my photo to CalenderGirl. Thanks for clarifying that! :)

Received photo from, I think, fluttery [are yhou zanimal on flicker?] Also send photo to Chaz. I'm a little confused by picture I received. Hope for clarification

I accidentally deleted mine, I think. I did not realize it was from swapbot, and I always delete if I don't know sender. Please re-send!

I'm a little confused about rating for this. I sent my photo to Chaz and he rated me immediately -- nice of him and I love prompt raters but ... do we rate when we get the pic? What about the story? I kind of assumed we would rate after we got the story. Is there any system for rating twice? Help!

lolalita 07/10/2007 #

You interact with two different people in the swap: 1) one you send your photo to and receive writing from and 2) another you receive a photo from. Since you have fulfilled your part of the transaction with Chaz, it was correct of him to rate you. You would, however, rate him after he fulfills his part of the swap, in this case, the writing. There will be another person who will send YOU a photo. You will rate this person after you receive the photo, and that person will rate you after receiving your writing. I hope I'm not rambling too much. Please feel free to contact me if you need further clarification.

I sent my picture to not_paramount yesterday. Have fun!

junemoon 07/11/2007 #

Indiepopstatic -- yeah, I figured out that there are two different people who do different things. But thanks for clarifying, I believe summerlion who sent me a pic - actually three, was a little confused too. Good -- now I'm ready to write ... hmmm... that's the challenging part. Thanks for hosting this swap, it's a fascinating idea.

SO....we mark ourselves as "Sent" after we send the photo? or after we send the writing?

The actual doing of the photo sending and writing is clear to me but the rating thing is a little confusing.

lolalita 07/11/2007 #

We mark ourselves "sent" after sending the photo. Sorry about the confusion.

Chaz 07/13/2007 #

I am still not sure how we rate for writing. The only rating we can process is the one recieved by the photo swapped. When I recieve writing back from my swapper there is no place on the site to rate them. I can send lovely comments to post on their profile but it would not factor into the rating.

Hi Angelbaby, thank you for such a great poem. I loved it :-))))

Hi From the P1nes, I am in the prosess of writting to go with your very interesting photo today and will send it tonight or tomorrow :-)

junemoon 07/15/2007 #

I sent the story to FLUTTERBY, inspired by her generously sending me extra photos when the first one stumped me. I'm with Chris -- there's no way to rate a story so far as I can see -- and isn't the story the biggest part?

lolalita 07/16/2007 #

I think we should rate the transactions themselves (i.e. prompt communication, friendliness, etc.) Like someone said earlier, we can leave comments about the writing. How does that sound?

lolalita 07/16/2007 #

FYI, I've created a second run of this swap, for those of you who are interested. Thanks for joining. It was tons of fun!

junemoon 07/16/2007 #
